Recently, I was fortunate to attend Louisville’s Best Dressed presented by Churchill Downs with our friends (and nominees for Best Dressed Couple) Elizabeth and John Lenihan. After trying on literally every dress in my closet and then contemplating taking up sewing to make a dress, I put on an old faithful and went. We had a wonderful time.
The fashion show, put on by local boutiques, was fantastic. I took copious notes of trends that I noted from the fashion show. These trends are all sold here at Louisville boutiques. While some are big trends, some can just be an added touch — perhaps just an accessory for fall. The pictures from the fashion show are all located on the Voice-Tribune’s website. I have used other pictures and examples of trends to illustrate my findings below.
I have seen fur capes, fur collars, fur shrugs, fur vests, fur throws and most importantly, fur coats everywhere for fall. Now, before you go sending your animal cruelty letters to me, there are plenty of faux fur options. Both items below are faux fur and their price point is very very reasonable. (Soon I will be writing a post about how to buy fur. So, you can sit tight and hold out for the real thing or enjoy these below.)
By “statement coat,” I mean that you will not want to take this coat off once you get inside. It IS your outfit. So position yourself where you will be outside a lot and you can show these off.
Also, think about a cape instead of wearing a coat. Just as warm, and definitely makes a statement.
There is a huge RED trend this fall. Coats are a good place to start.
When these three designers showed red pants for their fall 2011 collections, my radar went up.
But what really sealed the deal for me was when Justin Bieber showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards with red pants. Sold!
And, in addition to your red clothes, red lipstick is gaining ground as well.
Peep Toe Booties
Stay with me on this one. Okay, take your boot. Now cut that off to your ankle. (Here’s where I exit this trend as booties make my cankles very impressive.) Now cut out the toe. Voila! A peep-toe bootie. They are not just made of leather, or normal boot material. I saw several versions in lace.
Animal print is big this fall, of course, did it ever really go out of style?
I call these picks below Full Carmela Soprano. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just google Carmela Soprano and I’m 99% sure she will be wearing animal print.
Two words here folks: Thank God.
After last season’s struggle of watching grown women wear jeggings, this is a relief. And a flattering relief at that. There was a pair of bright red pants similar to these at the fashion show, complete with a tie waist. They were incredible.
As of today, summer is officially over. Pack up the linen. Start separating out your whites into what you can wear into the fall. We will have another post on wearing white into the fall and winter, so don’t completely pack it up yet.
Take your capri pants and pack those up (might want to donate) and get the french pedicure off your toes (dark plum is nice!). Fall is coming!
