The kickoff to Derby officially began this week, with the first Derby fashion show happening last week at Westport Village. With less than 50 days until Derby, it is never too late to start planning what you will be wearing not just to Derby, but also to spring events in general.
The trends I saw have already been discussed in previous posts, such as mint, coral and beige and our spring trends post, and there are some dark horse candidates as well if you want to go a little off the grid.
Here they are:
Chevrons are popular everywhere, from home decor to fashion.
Whether it’s solid orange, orange lace, or pops of orange, orange is everywhere.
Lace is shown above in the orange category and with just about every color.
Not just for brides or first communion anymore, white dresses are a great neutral. Add your color in your hat and your purse. I would throw caution to the wind where wearing white is concerned. Make sure you are buying good quality (i.e., so the material is not too thin) and make sure you have proper undergarments.
Perhaps one of the most flattering colors to wear, everyone needs to incorporate this into their wardrobe this season.
Here are a couple trends that I consider sleeper hits.
Leather? In Spring? Yes. And in a variety of spring colors, as well.
Whether in animal print or floral, flowy skirts, dresses and pants made an appearance on the runway, too. This direction would definitely be comfortable, meaning you could leave the Spanx at home.
There’s the first look at Derby fashion for you. There are more fashion shows to come, and I’ll be sure to keep everyone in the loop as to the trends. Until then, maybe I should start my Derby ticket pursuit.
