Confession: I have never been to Caufield’s before last week. It seems as though my children have been there plenty of times, but I have some how missed the field trip. And what a field trip!
Just driving up to the building alone lets you know that this place takes itself seriously. They have a limousine out front and one of the most disgusting, gruesome window displays in the city.
Zombie mothers rocking zombie babies while a head roasts in the fireplace. (Local haunted houses got nothing on this.)
Let’s discuss the costumes. Do you realize that this place is open year round, and has been for 90 years? (I didn’t.) Louisvillians must seriously like their dress up to sustain this business for this long.
So you need a costume. Start here in aisle one and work your way through this entire building. You will not come up empty handed.
My favorite room in this very large building is the Dungeon, where I got scared not once, but twice by the same thing. I guess I’m an easy target.
My middle child would not even enter the room, my oldest was unfazed and, well, here is my youngest’s reaction: priceless.
If you cannot find a costume after going here, I cannot help you … But these folks (below) may be of some assistance.
Caufield’s is located at 10th and Main street. You can visit their website (and buy online) here: www.caufields.com.
