Mother’s Day is almost here! If you are anything like we are, it definitely snuck up on us this year. Don’t panic! We are here for you with this list of Sunday brunch alternatives, last-minute Mother’s Day gift ideas and weekend outings. And feel free to pass this list along to anyone in charge of making your Mother’s Day special. Our biggest suggestion overall is to think of it as Mother’s Day weekend. Mothers deserve a full weekend, and this approach opens up so many more fun ways to celebrate.
Saturday Lunch is the New Sunday Brunch
Sunday brunch is great. We won’t deny it. But while Sunday brunch in Louisville is typically one of our favorite things, a reservation for Mother’s Day proper may be hard to come by. If your heart is set on brunch with the family, Saturday may be your best bet. We suggest calling some of our local Louisville restaurant favorites ASAP – Harvest, Proof on Main, 211 Clover Lane and Finn’s Southern Kitchen are great places to start for Saturday brunch options. And we don’t blame you for checking on Sunday availability while you’re at it.
While they don’t serve up an official brunch, a leisurely Saturday lunch at Lilly’s Bistro with a Lillet Vive cocktail – Lillet Blanc, Jack Rudy Tonic, cucumber, strawberry, mint and a splash of soda – sounds like a perfect way to celebrate all the mothers in your life. And skip across the river to Portage House in Jeffersonville for a delicious lunch and cocktails by the water. Neither Lilly’s or Portage House are open on Sundays or require reservations, but we highly suggest making one. Your mother will definitely approve.
Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gifts
We know. We meant to take care of this weeks ago, too. No need to worry with this list of thoughtful, last-minute gifts from local shops we love. But procrastination time is over. Really. Your mother says so.
Vintage teacup & saucer garden ornament
This sweetly repurposed vintage china, attached to a copper stake, will make any mother smile. Include it as part of a beautifully planted container for a cheerful and unique Mother’s Day gift. Find one perfect for mom at Craft(s) Gallery & Mercantile for $10 each.
Handmade gold necklaces
Pick a dainty favorite for your mother or yourself. Prices range from $44 to $98 each at Mabel & Moss.
Therapeutic massage gift card
Pick up one gift card for your mother, pick up another for yourself. Elements Massage Louisville East is currently offering 70 minutes for $70 for the perfectly thoughtful, self-care Mother’s Day gift.
Fiber art necklace
For the art-loving mother who brightens the room, we are swooning over this almost magical necklace by fiber artist Mariko Kusumoto, made from delicate but durable, lightweight polyester fabric and inspired by the natural world. Find this necklace – a luxe splurge at $3,000 – and other pieces from this line, including earrings and brooches ranging from $40 to $400, at the KMAC Museum Shop.
Pastel print scarf
This pretty print scarf makes a lovely summer accessory, but it also comes with a great cause. The Nancye Belle scarf is an exclusive Hope Scarves design, and each scarf sold raises funding for metastatic breast cancer research. Designed by Kentucky-based artist Melanie Park and created through a partnership with Echo Design, this scarf can be purchased in time for Mother’s Day at the Hope Scarves storefront or at any Nanz & Kraft Florists location. The Nancye Belle scarf is $32.
