As we embark on a new year, we can help but envision a blank canvas … a fresh start! We asked around the SB offices to find out what everyone is striving to accomplish or resolving to do in 2019, and we got a variety of answers — even one that resolves to not have any resolutions!
Take a look and see if any of these sound familiar or perhaps inspire your own New Year’s resolutions. Either way, here’s to an amazing new year!
Our 2019 New Year’s Resolutions
HEALTH & WELLNESS
“I’m looking forward to increasing my steps and planning for better work/life balance. I also hope to read a chronicle Bible.” — Ginny Staggs, SB Director of Sales
“My New Year’s resolution is to allow myself to let go of ‘to-do list’ worries, be truly present with my family and enjoy simply being in the moment.” — Lauren Helmer, SB Regional Editor
“One of my resolutions/goals for 2019 is to start a vegetable garden. We successfully ditched our microwave this year, and now that I’ve moved from a condo to a place with a nice backyard, I’m excited to try and add this new challenge to my cooking routine.” — Lacy Green, SB Traffic Manager
“My resolution is to shed the ‘should’s’ and embrace the ‘could’s.'” — Megan Casey, SB Director of Marketing
“I have two New Year’s resolutions. First on the list is to save up all of our extra money for the purchase of our first home. I’m not putting actually purchasing a home as my resolution because I know how picky I’m going to be, so I’m sure it will take lots of house hunting to find our (almost) perfect home. My second, but equally as important resolution, is to get into the best shape of my life! My husband and I are starting to get baby fever but would like to purchase our first home before having a little one. I’m hoping this plan will provide me enough time to get into the best shape of my life, which I’m thinking will make getting back into shape post-pregnancy easier (and if it won’t, please don’t tell me!). This is probably going to lead to joining a gym, maybe OrangeTheory or something of the sort. I need someone to yell at me during my workouts, and my apartment gym isn’t cutting it.” — Lauren Cummings, SB Business Coordinator
“Among other changes, I’d like to commit to a more structured yoga routine during the new year. I’ve always enjoyed taking yoga classes and felt that it not only offers a good workout, but also helps to de-stress, relax and re-center me. I plan to take classes at local studios and at home — Yoga with Adriene has tons of easy-to-follow videos, some for beginners, some for relaxation, some for full-body workout, etc. to do from home.” — Bailey Torkelson, SB Birmingham Client Success Rep
“Instead of a resolution to change something or do something, I’m setting a word for 2019 – open. To new experiences, to new people and to opportunities I might have otherwise dismissed in years past.” — Annie Reeves, SB Marketing & Editorial Assistant
“I have a habit of adding new things but not doing a good job purposefully eliminating other things that aren’t working so well. I plan to be more purposeful with my time in 2019, and that includes what I’m doing each day AND taking things off my plate in order to have more time and attention for the things that matter most. I’m starting with negativity and purposefully trying to eliminate that from my life. And, along with that same idea, I need to do a better job managing stress, so I’m looking at yoga or meditation … and eliminating all my news push notifications on my phone so that I’m not looking at the news every 5-minutes and getting more stressed out.” — Liza Graves, SB Cofounder
PERFORMANCE-RELATED
“Sell another 150 ticket show!” — Jesse Gillenwalters, SB Digital Marketing Analyst & founder of Basic Printer
“To run a race in 20 different cities.” — Katelyn Caughron, SB Memphis Client Success Rep
MUMS THE WORD
“I like to make New Years resolutions but keep them to myself. So I never announce them. Lessens the pressure I put on myself!” — Cindy Acuff, SB Nashville Account Executive
MONTHLY GOALS
“My resolution is not to make a resolution for 2019. Instead, I’m going to take each month as an opportunity to improve in an area.” — Connie Prince, SB Nashville Account Executive
“I’m going to write one letter a month. I made that resolution two years ago, and I made it almost through the year. I just sort of listened to my heart and whoever came to mind at any given time was the person I wrote to — just to let them know I was thinking of them.” — Ashley Haugen, SB Managing Editor
LESSEN THE SCREEN TIME
“To watch less TV. I spend so much time bingeing on new shows on Netflix. I want to utilize that time to play guitar more, learn a new language, workout, etc.” — Wesley Ware, SB Louisville Client Success Rep
“In 2019, my goal is to look at something that isn’t a screen first thing when I wake up in the morning. Obviously, I need to turn off my alarm, but after I press the button, I want to read something (even if it’s short) before even checking my messages. Five minutes later is fine, but if I am looking at screens all day long, I’d love to start my day with something else as a refresher to the morning. It’s too tempting to fall into a deep hole of scrolling if it’s the first thing I do when my eyes open.” — Peyton Haecker, SB Nashville Client Success Rep
