Each month we run FACES of the South, an article that is shared with all of our StyleBlueprint markets. The woman we feature is always someone we think you’ll find inspirational. To kick off 2018, we want to imagine that YOU are our FACE of the South. What is your story? What advice would you give to others and to yourself? In that vein, we are announcing our theme for 2018, as it’s all about YOU!
Since launching StyleBlueprint in Nashville in 2009, and expanding into our sister cities of Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, Louisville and Memphis in the following years, and adding our regional Southern Edition as well, we’ve always wanted to focus on articles that connect you, our readers, to your community at large, whether that be businesses we spotlight in your backyard or the online lifestyle community you can find here at StyleBlueprint. Our goal has always been, and continues to be, providing articles that will inspire you, or make you laugh, or call you to action, or simply feed that desire we all have — to be in the know on many topics.
To celebrate our ninth year, we are formalizing the notion of living your best life, which is beyond living it; it’s embracing it. It’s recognizing it, working for it, enjoying it and delighting in it. The big things, the small things. The happy things … and the not-so-happy things. Analyzing what makes you you, and how that’s okay if it’s different from what makes me me. Loving yourself and those around you, connecting with the parts of you that have been suppressed and you realize that you miss, working toward goals that you’ve been scared to give voice to, finally conquering a new year’s resolution! As the saying goes, “Life is not a dress rehearsal,” so live it well.
Yes, you’ll still find articles about recipes, travel, new restaurants, interior design and fashion trends, local businesses and our ever-popular monthly Happenings article. But, regular readers will notice a bit more emphasis on wellness, paying more attention to the little things that define us, finding “more” out of each day and accepting the differences that make us each unique individuals.
We will also have some fun challenges along the way — niche content that you can sign up for to tackle a certain aspect of this whole “embracing your best life” theme! For example, sign up today for our upcoming “Back to the Dinner Table” challenge and receive three extra emails, one each Sunday morning from January 21 through February 4, featuring seven recipes for the week and grocery lists to go with them. One week will be devoted to clean eating, with recipes by Laura Lea Goldberg of LL Balanced, another week will feature plant-rich recipes by McKel Hill of Nutrition Stripped, and our last week will put the spotlight on the paleo lifestyle with recipes by Katie Reynolds of Katie’s Plates. Try them all, and see how your body and mind respond! Sign up here.
Other challenges will come your way as the year progresses to give you an added inspirational boost and augment our regular daily articles.
We are also launching a series called “Southern Voices,” which are articles written by people just like you, people with stories to tell that will delight and inspire. One might be about starting your first job out of college, or your first job after taking a decade off to be at home with your kids. Another might be about how being a dad feels on Father’s Day. Yet another may be about sending a child off to college for the first time or wearing a bathing suit for the first time after having kids — yes, experiences far and wide from both men and women alike. Expect deep topics and light topics, funny topics and others perhaps more serious, but each one offers a viewpoint that will connect you to the writer, as we fully embrace that connecting with each other is one of life’s biggest joys. Our editorial team is currently looking through submissions for upcoming Southern Voices, and if you have something you’d like to share, we would be honored if you considered our platform! Learn more about how to submit to Southern Voices here.
Yes, today YOU are our FACE of the South. Our challenge to you is to ponder the questions similar to those we ask all of our FACES. We urge you to take the time to write the answers, leave them for a few days and then read them afresh. What do you think? Where do you want to pivot on this one-way road of life, as it’s certainly not a straight path, but one filled with forks, curves and even rest stops. This is your year and your time, and our goal is to support you each and every day!
Questions to answer:
- What led you to your current city, and why have you decided to make it home?
- If you could be doing anything other than your current career (that means paid and unpaid careers!), what would you be doing?
- What is a hobby that you want to pick up?
- How do you give back to your community?
- What is the last best book you’ve read and the next one you are hoping to read?
- What event are you most looking forward to attending in the next few months?
- What is one resolution you are hoping to conquer this year?
- What is something about you that would surprise our readers?
- What do you hope your friends and family say about you when you are not around?
- What is a piece of advice or saying that you rely on that you would like to pass along?
Thank you for reading StyleBlueprint and making it a part of your life. We hope that this year is one of strength and knowledge for us all, with a few laughs along the way!
