In our city-specific market editions of StyleBlueprint, we write monthly columns on what to wear to certain events around that town. Today, we launch the same column in our regional brand, StyleBlueprint.com. Look for monthly highlights on what to wear geared specifically to the month ahead! Our goal is not to keep you being of-the-moment-fashion-forward, but to keep you on-trend and stylish with pieces that make the question of “what to wear” easier.
What to Wear in December
As we are all more than well aware, it’s December. With that comes many chances to be seen (so schedule those blowouts and nail appointments!). If you have the right things to pull from your closet, the whole experience can be a breeze. Here are some suggestions that we are loving for the month ahead. Buy new, or use these suggestions to look at your own wardrobe with fresh eyes.
For many of us, December means extra lunches with friends, school parties or neighborhood gatherings. Having a core wardrobe of staple pieces will work for many of these events. We’re thinking that columns of neutral stylings with pops of color and sparkle will lead the way to anxiety-free moments in the days ahead!
When you look at the collage below, pick a column of color you like: gray, black or ivory. All of the accessories work with each. Having some jeans, a chambray shirt and a great plaid shirt offers you the chance to mix for variety. If you have some gray, black or ivory pants (or all!), do go and get some blouses or V-neck sweaters in the same color, as it allows you to always have the ease of a go-to polished look on which to build. And when you have all three of these colors, they mix and match effortlessly.
The cocktail party
Have one dress on hand that fits you well, whether you lose five pounds from stress or gain 10 pounds from eggnog! Consider any of these five great holiday options.
SB note: Make sure you have a great pair of shoes for your dress. A pair of nude shoes or metallic gold would work with every single dress listed here.
Holiday gala or black-tie wedding
It’s become a fairly popular time of year to get married and sometimes the weddings are pretty darn fancy. Having an evening skirt on hand will be a piece you grab time and time again, for more than a decade, so buy one! Charity events, weddings, special moments … if these sound like the type of things that come your way, do it—buy the skirt.
Here are five great ball skirts. Pair them with a silk shell, cashmere sweater or white blouse. You’ll rock this look!
