A white t-shirt is a staple in our everyday wardrobe, but it can easily get trapped in our rotation of casual attire. A white tee can be dressed up too! Here are three stylish — and different — ways to wear a white tee, from the office to everyday outings.
First things first, though. Let’s get a great tee or two to work with. Of course, you can shop your own closet for the white tee of your choosing, but finding the perfect one can be challenging — making sure it’s not see-through, that it’s high quality and can last through a number of wears and washes. Here are two tees (both loved by SB staffers!) that we don time and time again.
Madewell has a great selection of t-shirts in all varieties and colors. We love the Northside Vintage Tee ($16) because it’s affordable, flattering, easy-to-style and, of course, comfortable. Another favorite is the All Yours Boyfriend tee ($58) from Lululemon. This one tops our white tee list for its ultra-soft fabric and relaxed fit. As you can see in the picture, this one is slightly see-through, so make sure you’re wearing a tan bra or tank top underneath. Now, let’s get to styling …
3 Ways to Wear a White Tee
WEAR TO WORK
Yes, you can wear a white tee to work! Although there are different work settings and dress codes, a white tee is versatile enough to wear to work as long as the rest of your outfit elevates this closet staple. Pair your white tee with a pair of trousers (we’ll almost always choose black, but don’t be afraid of color!), a simple, comfortable and practical cardigan, and a pair of not-too-high heels. Finish off the look with some statement earrings to add a splash of personality to an otherwise office-appropriate look.
These slim trousers ($58.90) are both flattering and comfortable. We love the on-trend cropped ankle length. For this look, we’re going for the Madewell vintage tee ($16) and this long cardigan ($165.90), which keeps us both warm and covered. We’re rounding out the ensemble with these simple Sam Edelman pumps ($79.90) and Kate Spade subtle statement earrings. ($37.90)

WEAR TO DRINKS
Grabbing dinner or drinks with your girlfriends after work? Swap out the trousers for a skirt, the heels for a strappier pair and the sweater for a leather jacket and voila! You’re rocking that coveted effortlessly cool look. It’s a style that also works for date night, unwinding with coworkers after a long week, or any semi-dressy weekend activity you have planned.
For this look, we’re pairing that same Madewell tee ($16) with a fun and on-trend leopard print midi skirt ($49), moto leather jacket ($62.90), Steve Madden strappy heels ($59.90) and Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag ($248).
A good chunk of our time is spent running errands or attending casual daytime outings. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together a comfortable summertime look that can be worn everywhere — from Target to your neighborhood cafe!
Since this is an everyday, casual look, we’ve decided to keep it simple by pairing the Lululemon tee ($58) with a comfortable pair of light wash jeans ($64.90) and some blush-colored slides ($59.90) perfect for wherever your daytime outings take you. Feel free to add a silk scarf, tied bandana-style, around your neck if you’re looking to add a pop of color, or dress it up a bit with a pair of low-heel mules.
