From kids’ parties to bachelorette parties to corporate events and the big birthdays ending with a zero, there’s a lot of pressure nowadays to throw the ultimate party. Besides keeping up with the Joneses next door, we now have to contend with the millions of Joneses on social media. Well yes, technically, throwing a party should be about the celebration itself, not about blowing Pinterest out of the water but let’s be honest: Everyone wants to show off their creativity and hosting skills by sourcing out the most killer, out-of-the-box party venues in Atlanta.

We’ve scouted a few of our favorite Atlanta spots to throw a party sure to stay on the minds of your guests and get you thinking beyond the traditional. Here are some of the coolest places with the most accommodating people who will do whatever it takes to help you throw the party of the year!

Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center

225 Chester Ave., Atlanta, GA 30316 • (404) 522-4097

Perfect for: Corporate events, weddings, environmentalists

Having a party puts a smile on your face; doing something good for the world puts a smile in your soul. Combine the two by renting out Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center in Reynoldstown. The venue is a Platinum LEED Certified building, putting in every effort to create a design that’s not only beautiful but also kind to the environment. And what’s really cool is that proceeds from every event booked at the facility benefit Trees Atlanta and its programs!

We love the openness of the center — a great spot for corporate retreats, team bonding and annual meetings. If you want to go the romantic route, it also makes a great wedding venue, perfect for couples who want to do something different. A neat detail for nuptials includes the Tribute Tree, “the perfect gift to celebrate a union, either as a gift the bride and groom purchases in honor of each guest, or as a gift from a guest to the bride and groom.”

Lenox Cupcakes has a very large, cute space with exposed brick and duct work — perfect for a cupcake-decorating party like the one pictured here.

But this super-friendly, sweet (literally and figuratively) bakery has a secret: They know how to party! You can reserve the party room — which, essentially, is the entire bakery storefront — for a big event that comes complete with tables, setup, obviously cupcakes and other details. But we love Lenox Cupcakes for their amazing kids’ parties. The bakery creates decorating stations for each child, featuring four (!) cupcakes per child to decorate, eat and take home as a favor with supplied sprinkles, candies, fondant and other decorations — all led by a trained instructor. And each child gets to decorate, wear and keep an apron and chef’s hat as more fun favors. Lenox even provides drinks for each child, while the host brings any additional food, as well as activities.

The people at Lenox Cupcakes are super friendly, so contact them to find out pricing details, available dates and other personalized details to customize your party. And watch out for that sugar rush!

Each child at Lenox Cupcakes has the chance to decorate four cupcakes with their own bags of icing, as well as various toppings. The birthday girl or boy can choose the colors of the icing and toppings selections.

Le Maison Rouge at Paris on Ponce

716 Ponce de Leon Place NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 • (404) 249-9965

Perfect for: Small weddings, anniversaries, adult birthdays

The flavor and vibe of Paris’ red light district is in full effect at Le Maison Rouge, inside Paris on Ponce located in the Poncey-Highland neighborhood. Entering this red-lit space is like stepping into the movie Moulin Rouge! and going back to another time and place, where everyone can can-can, corsets are required uniforms and feathered headpieces are always in. Walk into this boudoir-like space, where almost every inch features authentic details sure to impress your guests (including a stage, dance floor, antiques and curtained sections for those partygoers who need some discretion).

Renting Le Maison Rouge includes five hours of party time (additional time for set-up and clean-up), parking, use of the expanded salon area, kitchen and, of course, the back deck that overlooks the always bustling BeltLine. Release your Lady Marmalade and have a party steeped in seduction, glamour and a whole lot of fun.

It honestly feels like you’ve stepped into 19th Century Paris and out of modern Atlanta when you visit Le Maison Rouge. The stage is an easy way to display your entertainment and there’s seating in front and on the sides of the open space.

Downwind Restaurant and Lounge

2000 Airport Road, Atlanta, GA 30341 • (770) 452-0973

Perfect for: Children’s birthdays

There’s something magical about airplanes when it comes to kids. Maybe it’s the dream of one day piloting their own plane, watching objects resist gravity or perhaps it’s just the loud noise. Whatever the secret is, children love watching airplanes take off and land, and they can do it in person at the Downwind Restaurant and Lounge at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK). Each Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. (before the restaurant opens to the public at 12 p.m.), Downwind holds one children’s birthday party per week.

The food is obviously delicious, as the restaurant has been around for more than 20 years, but it’s the “entertainment” that puts this venue on our party list. Children get to watch all the airplanes come in and out of the airport while they play games and eat cake. And once the party is over, guests can head out to the PDK playground and viewing deck, set right beyond the runway for the best aviation views, for the greatest audience in the city: kids!

Whirlyball Atlanta

5130 Commerce Pkwy., Roswell, GA 30076 • (770) 998-6161

Perfect for: Team building and corporate gatherings, OTP birthdays

Whirlyball combines the best of wiffle ball, basketball and bumper cars into an action-packed “sport” that’s not only fun to watch but even better to play. Teams work together to score on their opponents in the most ridiculous-looking game that puts a smile on every competitor’s face. Whirlyball Atlanta offers the perfect place to build team unity and trust in a fun environment. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they have a full bar, party room and stage (karaoke always solidifies team building).

Pole Dance 411

475 Moreland Ave. SE, Atlanta, GA 30316 • (404) 622-4110

Perfect for: Bachelorette party

Pole Dance 411, part of Dance 411 Studios, is a fun way to loosen up your gal pals and bring out the inner vixen in every lady. Located near Glenwood Park, Dance 411 offers lots of amazing dance classes year-round, for children and adults. However, the weekly “Ladies Classes” are dance classes on the sultry, adult side, such as Go-Go Stiletto, Lap Dance, Twerk Fit, Sexy & Flexy and, of course, lots of different levels and versions of pole dancing.

The reason we like Pole Dance 411 (besides all the clever routines) is that you can take the fun on a private level, a fabulous idea when planning a bachelorette party. The bride-to-be and her besties have the opportunity to bring their sexy back by booking the pole studio, which comes with a certified instructor who teaches the group basic pole and twerking moves, a sexy routine, photo ops and a whole lot of fun. Partygoers can bring their own snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and the inevitable “adult-themed” desserts. Just remember: Don’t lotion up before the party or you’ll come crashing down that pole faster than you can say “male stripper!”

There are tons of other cool places to host a party off the traditional, beaten path (ahem, Delta Museum and Little Shop of Stories), so make sure you think outside the box when planning your next soiree!
