August is the perfect time to start dreaming of fall fashions and the exciting new seasonal pieces to add to your wardrobe, in part due to the back-to-school mentality that gets us all thinking of shopping for fresh, new outfits. But with these visions of tall boots and cozy sweaters comes the all too familiar shopping anxiety that I see with many of my Style Coaching clients. It’s that feeling of shopping for hours with nothing to show for it, or just finding the time to shop given how busy the fall tends to be with school, football, work and more.

Part of making shopping easier and more efficient is knowing what’s in style. But before you know what is current, you need to know what’s flattering on your specific silhouette. Not all brands, stores or trends are meant for every body, so it’s important to educate yourself on this fact first. Once you know your body type, you’ll then be able to easily weed through the racks of clothes and quickly determine what’s worth trying on and what needs to stay on the racks.

To help you best navigate what is in this season, I’m breaking down three of the top fall trends that are actually wearable for most body types. “Wearable” and “trends” don’t always go hand in hand as many are more so meant for the runway or the magazines, but these three are easy and fun to wear now and into the winter.

3 Top Fall Trends Anyone Can Wear

Pistachio is one of the most important colors of Fall 2019. This muted green hue is a breath of fresh air amidst the darker fall palette. Wear it head to toe for a modern, monochromatic look, but make sure to incorporate different textures to keep it interesting and not flat. You can also do it in a tonal color way by pairing it with some of the more utilitarian trend items, like a pair of olive pants or an army green jacket. If pistachio feels intimidating to you, then you can dabble in this trend with a top in this color paired with neutrals.

Belts are back in full force! They went away for a few seasons, in particular, the wider ones, but they are back and looking quite fresh. We are seeing belts worn at the natural waist (the area under your rib cage), which is quite flattering on most silhouettes as this is a smaller area of most women’s torsos. Try belting a dress to create a waist, and if the dress came with a sash try switching it out for a more interesting belt.

Another option that I’m particularly excited about is belting a blazer or jacket at the natural waist for a polished and contemporary look. The belts we are seeing are a variety of widths, ranging from about 2 inches to ultra-wide. Select the width based on your height and shape, as we don’t want anything that overpowers you.

Uptown Chic

“Uptown Chic” is the trend every classic woman has been waiting for, and this fall it’s here! While this isn’t your typical black pants and white blouse kind of classic outfit, it’s something that any classic woman can wear with a little effort, confidence and desire to break out of the box. This form of “classic” is all about an uptown (think NYC’s Upper Eastside) vibe with a dash of the ’70s … A-line skirts with a beautiful blouse, all belted. For an extra dash of style add a tailored blazer and/or a neckerchief on top too. Last but not least, tall boots are back with a vengeance!  While ankle booties aren’t going away, tall boots have had a major comeback. They look especially fresh with a fit and flare dress.
