The SB Hot List: June 2019
The Peach Truck Cookbook
I have been a long time fan of The Peach Truck, so I was thrilled to receive their new cookbook this month. It’s chock full of great recipes, preservation tips, and a dose of inspiration for anyone looking to follow their unconventional dreams!

“Slow Burn” Podcast
We hear about the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal all the time but not having lived through it myself, listening to the Slow Burn podcast, which explains the entire thing, was so interesting. It goes through little details about the Clinton presidency that I never knew or had forgotten, and it’s so interesting how interconnected everything is to things going on in politics today. We listened to this podcast as a family while we were driving out west earlier this month. For families with kids in high school and older, I’d recommend it if you are on a vacation that requires a lot of car time.

Kodiak Cakes Flapjack Cup
I’ve been a lover of Kodiak Cakes for some time now, but I recently discovered these on-the-go cups that taste just like pancakes. I love breakfast, I love pancakes, but I don’t love all the carbs. This is the best of both worlds, and it’s so delicious and tastes just like pancakes. Win-win.

Agadir Argan Oil Shampoo and Styling Spritz
I love my Agadir Argan Oil Shampoo and Styling Spritz. They give me curl control, cut down the frizz, and the shampoo doesn’t require additional conditioner, which works for me because it also cuts down on the oiliness. I use the spritz as a final finishing spray.

Tessamae’s Avocado Ranch Dressing
I was introduced to this amazing salad dressing by one of my fellow interns, and it has upgraded my salad game! I’m a fan of Chick-fil-A’s Avocado Lime Ranch, and this dressing rivals it. It’s dairy-free, Whole30-approved and Keto-friendly, but I just love the way it tastes. It isn’t too heavy either, so you can pour as much over your greens as you’d like. It also makes for a great dipping sauce for veggies (or pizza, if that’s your thing)!

“Big Little Lies” Playlist
The return of “Big Little Lies” has me, once again, obsessing over the soundtrack, and there’s a Spotify playlist that features every song from seasons one and two. So good!
— Bailey Torkelson, SB Editorial and Marketing Assistant Manager
The “Dissect” Podcast
As a total music nerd, this podcast is like an all-you-can-eat buffet for me. Each season, the podcast dives deep into a single contemporary album, discussing everything from music theory to overarching lyrical themes. If you’re deep into music, “Dissect” is for you — and if you’re not, you’ll be fascinated by everything you’ll learn.

Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 by Drunk Elephant
This sunscreen is my summer go-to for those no make-up days. I love the tinted color and how well it blends into my skin, leaving a dewy look that’s perfect for all-day wear. Drunk Elephant is my favorite skincare line because of their clean ingredients! You also can’t beat their amazing branding.

Oh She Glows App
I have been trying to eat a mostly plant-based diet, so finding tasty recipes has been at the top of the list. In my search, I discovered Angela Lidden’s Oh She Glows app, and I have been obsessed with it ever since. Her recipes are easy (a must since I not a great cook), and they’re amazingly delicious. Case in point: the crunchy dill chickpea pancakes with lemon garlic aioli. AMAZING! Plus the app has fabulous features — such as the ability to strike through the instruction steps once completed. Well worth the $1.99 download. And also check out her website at ohsheglows.com.

Maisie Bandana Scarf
I was looking for a colorful, soft, high-quality bandana-style scarf to wear around my neck and in my hair at Bonnaroo and throughout the summer. I finally found this one at Sundance (in the color COIN), and I am obsessed with the size and breeziness of it. And for $28? No-brainer!

Venture Pal Lightweight Packable Backpack Daypack
This last minute Amazon purchase before our recent family vacation is my new favorite travel accessory. It’s incredibly lightweight, fairly small and can fit your stuff, your kids’ souvenirs, your husband’s rain jacket and much more! There are plenty of compartments for items that you don’t want to lose — like phone chargers, plane or train tickets, and passports. The daypack comes in lots of cute colors, and it’s very budget-friendly! I hated to switch back to my purse once I returned home.
— Melissa Thompson, SB Regional Account Executive
I routinely go to bed at 9 p.m., get extreme joy from a good jigsaw puzzle and am genuinely interested in the weather. However, the one habit I’ve recently adopted that has made me feel prematurely older than my years is using a pill organizer case. My new obsession with supplements and the increase in prescriptions necessary as I age was resulting in a solid five to 10 minutes of opening pill bottles and taking each pill in the mornings. Not to mention that halfway through the routine, I would forget which pills I had taken or not taken yet. Enter, the pill organizer. It’s low-tech, easy to use and life-changing — perfect for an aging human and it makes pill-taking a breeze.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
This gripping thriller by Alex Michaelides will have you on the edge until the very end. It is the story of Alice, an artist who is married to fashion photographer Gabriel Berenson — until she shoots him five times in the face and kills him. After the incident, she refuses to utter a single word and is sent to a mental institution. When a psychotherapist becomes obsessed with her case and applies for a job where she is being held, the unraveling of her story begins. The further you read, the faster you’ll want to reach the end. Hold on tight, The Silent Patient has some shocking turns.

Lens & Screen Cleaning Wipes
Anyone who knows me knows that the cleanliness of my personal spaces and belongings is of the utmost importance. My mother gifted me these screen wipes, and they are a valuable part of my daily life (only exaggerating a little). They are particularly great when you’re traveling a lot and feel like your phone and laptop are falling victim to all the airport grime. If I’m alone in this, so be it.
