My Sneaks

June 20, 2013 by Heidi Potter

Let’s play my favorite game “spot the American.” Generally speaking we Americans love our sneakers, and rightfully so. They are just so darn comfy. But FASHIONABLE….um, not sure. <crinkle nose and shrug shoulders here>.

Sneakers are not just for tourists anymore. Sneakers are a big money business, at all price points from your basic Chucks to Gucci. Everyone is making a sneaker for men, women and children now.

When I recently saw a very stylish friend wearing her white Chucks with jeans and an oxford, I was sold. It was cute, I tell ya.

Here’s what I found out there if you want to start a sneaker collection or just purchase one pair of sneaks.

So, here is the basic. The standard. The “can’t go wrong here” shoe: Chuck Taylor All Star Low Tops in White by Converse for $55. www.converse.com

Superga has lots of classic sneaks to choose from in great colors, too, starting at $65. www.superga-usa.com

Ever heard of Bensimon? They also have tons of cute colors and start at $55. www.shopbop.com/bensimon

Soludos is very popular with the celebrities for both their espadrille slip-on shoes and their lace-up sneakers. They have all sorts of cute designs as well. www.soludos.com

Camper makes a nice sneaker for a little higher price point at $105. www.camper.com

Want dressier, more expensive sneakers? Don’t fret, as every luxury line makes a sneaker now.

Here is a perforated one from Prada for $450: www.bergdorfgoodman.com

Burberry takes its classic plaid and puts it on a sneaker for $250. www.saksfifthavenue.com

The minute I saw this sneaker, I guessed the designer. Can you? (It’s Kate Spade). www.bergdorfgoodman.com

And here, my friends, is what a $495 sneaker looks like. This from Gucci is the Canvas Lace-Up Sneaker. www.bergdorfgoodman.com

We will end the shopping on that note. If you see me wearing a $500 pair of sneakers, I want you to take me aside and give me a status check for signs of stroke. The $55 Chucks will do just fine for me, thanks.

And if you need a little inspiration on how to wear them, here was my original inspiration on C Style Blog:

Have a great weekend!
