No, JetBlue is not offering everyone free tickets if you find yourself on a plane with a fussy baby. But, they did do this for one particular flight, causing giddy cheers every time a baby cried. You see, for each crying instance they awarded passengers 25% off their next ticket. Four cries later and they were up to a free ticket! Yep, it’s pretty awesome. Just in time for Mother’s Day, JetBlue, known for their over-the-top amazing and sentimental internet commercials, has done it again.
As a mom of three, I can tell you that after we flew with my middle child, and I ended up with more tears than she did (and dreaded the flight home so much that it practically ruined our weekend away), that my husband and I drew a circle 600 miles around our house, on a paper map, and said “no more flights for five years; within these 600 miles are all of our future vacations as we’re driving, not flying.” And, we really didn’t fly for five years. Parents know that crying babies are hard on everyone and that awareness makes it even harder on these same parents. They are not only dealing with their fussy one, they are dealing with an entire cabin of passengers who are put off by the little darling and some of these passengers can be quite rude.
As Mother’s Day draws near, cheers to you, mamas! May this commercial change the attitudes on flights everywhere. And, for everyone else, bring headphones!
