The new year upon us, so as you hold true to your resolutions as long as you can, let’s take a look at some of the most fabulous Atlanta events and happenings going on in January. Start the new year off right with these great Atlanta events we’ve scouted for the whole family!

Through February 17, 2019: Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors at the High Museum of Art
If you’ve been scrolling through your Instagram feeds, you must have seen people’s fantastic photos taken at the High’s exhibition, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors. Artist Yayoi Kusama takes visitors on a journey of color, story and creativity through her wonderful kaleidoscopic environments. Make sure you catch this exhibition before it leaves Atlanta in mid-February. A note: Advance tickets for Infinity Mirrors have sold out but you can still see it. Through February 17, there will be approximately 100 walk-up tickets available at the museum each day beginning one hour before the museum opens. Maximum two tickets per person. high.org
January 1, 2019: Resolution Run
Hopefully you took it easy the night before in order to start 2019 right, stretched hamstrings and all, at the annual Resolution Run. Zoom ahead in the 5K, One Mile or 50M Dash, and ring in the new year with family, friends and lots of committed fitness enthusiasts! January 13, 2019: Atlanta Jewish Life Festival
If you want to start your year off with a whole lot of mazel, attend the Atlanta Jewish Life Festival on Sunday, January 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Georgia Aquarium. Sponsored by the Atlanta Jewish Times, this family-friendly event is all about the “babka, bands and Belugas.” Enjoy a day of Israeli food vendors, live music, Judaica art and a celebration of the Jewish culture. January 19, 2019: Atlanta Winter Wine Festival
Keep yourself warm and bright this winter by attending the Atlanta Winter Wine Festival at City Winery on Saturday, January 19! There’s fun to be had at each session: one from noon to 4 p.m. and another from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ticket holders will get to sample more than 50 wines, beers and ciders and listen to some live music. Tickets are $45 in advance and $60 the day of the event. Of course, this event is only for those 21 and older. atlantawinefestivals.com
January 21, 2019: MLK Day 5K Let Freedom Run
Celebrate the spirit of unity and community on Martin Luther King Day by running this 5K walk/run that will take place entirely within Piedmont Park. Besides being a Peachtree Road Race qualifier, this unique run will have a 3.1-mile drumline along the ENTIRE race course as well as allow participants to register their school PTA, church or other organization to receive proceeds from the MLK Day 5K. January 21, 2019: Free Admission to Participating Museums for MLK Day
To celebrate MLK Day, enjoy free admission to the Margaret Mitchell House and Atlanta History Center, which also houses the Centennial Olympic Games Museum and the Goizueta Gardens. Please check the respective museums’ websites for their hours of operation.
January 23, 2019: Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox
I’m obsessed with Postmodern Jukebox, and we Atlantans are so lucky that this fabulously talented group of musicians, singers and entertainers are stopping at Cobb Energy Performing Arts to perform! Their Welcome to the Twenties 2.0 Tour (get it, because 2020 is quickly approaching) will knock your socks off, featuring covers of modern hits with a postmodern twist. January 25-27, 2019: Days of the Dead
Your new year is going to kill! Days of the Dead is a horror convention that scares up the best in fan favorites, happening for one weekend at the Atlanta Sheraton. January 25-27, 2019: Groundhog Day Jugglers Festival
Who needs Bill Murray to celebrate groundhogs when you have Atlanta’s best jugglers?! Make your way to the Yaarab Shrine Center for the 41st Annual Groundhog Day Jugglers Festival from January 25 to 27. Attend the festival, and you’ll experience jugglers, unicyclists, hoopers, kendama (a Japanese cup-and-ball game), live music and fun for the whole family. Whether your juggling skills are circus level or you want to try it for the first time, experts will be around to share jugging tricks and tips. atlantajugglers.org
January 26 & 27, 2019: Smyrna’s 8th Annual Oysterfest
Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar hosts another good year of good eating at Smyrna’s annual Oysterfest celebration. This Mardi Gras-themed event celebrates the world’s slimiest yet tastiest food — oysters that are raw, grilled, fried and any other delish method of preparation. Besides the great food, ticket holders can show up at 11 a.m. for New Orleans-inspired music, a cold Abita beer and a great time. January 26 & 27, 2019: Callanwolde Artist Market
Cold weather has no impact on the amazing Callanwolde Artist Market. This two-day indoor festival will feature over 80 artists including painters, photographers, jewelers and sculptors. Besides the gorgeous art, ticket holders will be treated to artist demonstrations, live music, food trucks and dance performances. The ticketed VIP preview party happens on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the real fun for the general public occurs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $5, and you can get them on their website. callanwolde.org
January 27, 2019: Disney’s DCappella
The only thing better than Disney music and a cappella music is … BOTH! Disney Music Group chose the best of the best a cappella singers from across the country to form this new group to perform childhood classics and famous tunes, perfect for the whole family. The musical journey lasts only one night so make sure to get your tickets at the Fox Theatre to see these talented singers live.
