You have the party dress, the shoes and the bag so now it’s time to talk hair. I tend to wear my hair one of two ways – up or down. Fancy do’s always intimidate me so I enlisted the help of my good friend and long time stylist, Angela Watson of Salon U, to give us some advice on easy hairstyles to get us through this holiday season and beyond…

Vertical Curls

For our first holiday look, start with clean, blown dry hair and use a one-inch curling iron to create vertical curls all around the head.

Vertical curls are easy to do and look beautiful.

To elevate this style, add a simple hair twist on the side and secure with a bobby pin.

Hide bobby pin by pulling hair over any part that may show.

Next, tweak this look, as Angela does in the photo below, by adding a vintage brooch…

Add a special touch with a piece of jewelry from your collection.

Adding an accessory elevates the look instantly. It is a simple way to up your style! Just secure with bobby pins, and voila!

Another beautiful vintage piece.

The Ponytail

Next we take this look to everyone’s favorite updo – the ponytail. This one involves a bit more than just the Emi Jay, but trust me, you can do it! The elevated ponytail look has been spotted all over the runways, so here are the few simple steps you need to know so you can rock this look, too.

First, tease about four sections around the crown and then smooth over the top layer.

Teasing is key!

A little bit of height at the crown gives this style the finished look you want.

Angela is gathering the hair to make the ponytail here.

Leaving the front portions of the hair for later, pull the rest back into a high pony. Remember, hair spray is your friend when it comes to adding and keeping volume.

The pony tail should sit up high.

Covering your ponytail elastic also is great way to elevate a daytime look and add some polish for a party.

Here, Angela is taking a small section of hair from underneath to cover the elastic band.

Finish by securing the wrapped section with a pin.

Next pull the side pieces back and secure with a pin underneath the pony.

Here’s a shot of the side pieces being secured.

To finish, Angela sectioned off parts of the pony and back combed with a teasing brush to add extra fullness for this fabulous finale…

Perfectly polished pony!

The Bun

For our final look, we are taking this high stylin’ pony and creating a ball-worthy bun.

Start with the ultimate bun creator – the donut. We got our’s at Sally’s Beauty Supply for $4.

By using a simple mesh donut which comes in various sizes and colors (blonde, brown and black – to match your hair color), you can create a glamorous look instantaneously!

Slide donut over pony tail.

Spread hair to cover donut.

Place a hair tie around donut.

Wrap hair around and secure with bobby pins.

Fabulous from all angles!

These three looks are so easy to achieve that you could literally change your hair style in the car in between parties, or change up your look over the course of several days! It’s the LBD approach to hair!
