Today’s post is from StyleBlueprint Birmingham Editor Catherine Romero:

Ever have a great idea, but lack the moolah to make it a reality? Want to help make a cool concept come to fruition? Well, check out Kickstarter.com! Kickstarter is an online crowd funding platform where people can list their ideas and set a funding goal and deadline for raising money, and if others like the idea, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project reaches its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when the deadline is reached and if the project falls short of its goal, then no one is charged. It’s all or nothing.

Kickstarter has the following project categories: Art, Comics, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film, Food, Games, Music, Photography, Publishing, Technology and Theater. From fashion designs to mobile apps, the ideas on there are limitless. We’re loving that so many creatives and entrepreneurs are finding the funding solutions they need to bring ideas and products to market, and that existing small businesses are finding support to clear hurdles and keep growing. Heidi Potter, our SB Louisville Editor, shared this link to a real-world story from WFPL (Louisville’s NPR affiliate station) about a local chef who was able to bolster his fledgling restaurant through Kickstarter: www.wfpl.org. This is the kind of community spirit StyleBlueprint is all about.
