Say goodbye to sundresses, sandals and sun hats, and hello to sweaters, denim and scarves. Fall weather is approaching quickly and now is the perfect time to update your seasonal shoe collection. As expected, booties, mules and autumn-inspired heels are on the trend forecast this year, but new trends, including Western-inspired styles, are also on the rise. From tall boots to classic flats, here’s what we will be wearing this season.
Tall boots are a must for the colder seasons, and this year we’re opting for flat and heeled options. Both are flattering, keep you warm and easily complete any fall outfit. Pair your heeled boots with a midi-length fall dress for a boho-chic look or with your go-to jeans and blouse for a comfortable yet put-together ensemble. Pair your flat boots with anything in your closet (yes, anything!). They’re so versatile that you’ll find yourself reaching for them from November through February.
As with most of the options in today’s shoe roundup, we’ve gone for neutral, wear-with-anything colors, as they’re easiest to style and because boots can be the most expensive footwear. The heeled boots below ($298) hit right under your knee and feature a comfortable stacked heel and warm brown tone. The flat boots ($189.95) are slightly taller with a flattering curve and rounded toe.
Of course, we could not do a fall shoe roundup without including a few booties. Similar to the tall boots, we went with neutral shades here that show off four distinct, on-trend styles this season. One reason booties are the shoe of choice this fall is they can be worn with anything. Dresses, skirts, jeans (especially cropped denim!) all pair perfectly with the right bootie. Here are a few favorites.
These taupe booties ($134.95) are a great color to have in your collection, as they pair well with the cooler tones (grays, blues, purples, whites, and black) you have hanging in your closet. We love the slight cutout and stacked heel. These black boots ($189.95) are great for every day and are 2020 trend-approved with a mix of Western and Chelsea boot detailing. The brown boots ($179.95) feature a unique square toe and the popular higher ankle cut, and they work best with warmer tones (oranges, reds, and off-white shades).
If you’re looking to rock a new trend this season, go for a cowboy boot! The cowboy style, often available in tall and bootie form, will be everywhere this season. We chose the option below ($69.95) because it’s a slightly more subtle approach to the Western trend and the white/gray color is a nice change of pace.
FLATS & MULES
Flats and mules are a great alternative to boots and booties, especially during transitional weather. Here, we’ve gone for one heeled option and one flat option, both in neutral tones that can be worn with anything. We’ve also included the most popular flats you’ll see this year and one fun heel if you’re looking for something different this season.
These heeled mules ($79.95) pair perfectly with cropped denim and a chunky sweater, and the flat mules ($89.95) will quickly become your go-to casual fall shoe. Once temperatures drop, go for these pointed-toe loafers ($71.95) in an easy-to-style shade like camel, and if you’d like to dress up a look, we love these rust-colored block heels (on sale for $63.98) for their fall-appropriate color, comfortable heel height and closed-toe.
Here’s to a stylish fall!
