If you were to think about how many gifts you give (and receive) throughout the course of your life, your head might start spinning. From weddings to baby showers to birthdays, life is full of gift-able moments. Now, imagine a place where all of your gift-giving needs can be taken care of all under one roof. Something for your dad? Check. A hostess gift? Check. A little “just because” present for yourself? Check. If you dare to dream it, it just might come true. In fact, Chamblee’s Broad Street Mercantile is doing their part to help make this seemingly impossible dream a reality for Atlanta residents.
Broad Street Mercantile owner Carrie Huyett is no stranger to retail. In addition to owning the prettiest little gift shop in Chamblee, Carrie is also the owner of neighboring shop Carrie’s Bridal. There, Carrie specializes in house-designed wedding gowns in a full range of sizes all for less than $1,000. After many years up to her elbows in taffeta and lace, Carrie saw an opportunity to expand her brand, and she jumped on it. “We wanted our brides to be able to find gifts for bridesmaids or showers while also having a plethora of gifts for any person and any occasion. Our space was originally a gift store many years ago, so we figured this would be a perfect place to revive a gift store in Chamblee.”
At just a few months old, the shop is already making itself at home. Warm colors make Broad Street Mercantile feel cozy while antique furniture pieces serve as merchandise displays. Carrie explains, “We have a very relaxed vibe and an easily accessible layout. We have rustic and industrial fixtures, antique chandeliers and reclaimed pieces that needed some love and a new home. We hate going into stores where we bump into things and feel like we’re going to break everything. We want everyone to feel at home with us!”
Broad Street Mercantile patrons will find everything from Vietri place settings to dainty bridal robes and oversized beach bags. A large selection of entertaining pieces by Mariposa and Mud Pie take center stage in the shop while the exterior walls have stuffed animals for babies, candles for your BFF, cufflinks for your guy and jewelry for you. “We have awesome things for every occasion,” Carrie says, and it’s true. The shop even boasts a wide selection of Atlanta-specific items perfect for going-away gifts, out-of-town guests, or the ATLien in each of us.
Carrie says it’s important to her that the store remain accessible for every shopper, whether you’re a bride looking for a hostess gift, or simply someone looking for a birthday present. “We pride ourselves in being affordable and having something for everyone,” she explains. “We want to have a price range where no matter who walks in, they can walk out with a gift that suits their budget.”
When selecting items for the shop, that concept is at the forefront of Carrie’s mind. She explains, “We really buy items that make us say, ‘I would totally buy that!’ We want to sell things that we would want to give as gifts. We love eclectic and fun gifts, practical gifts and gifts we haven’t seen before that make us go, ‘That’s a great idea!’ It is so fun to find new products and even more fun to see our customers love them too.”
We’re confident Broad Street Mercantile shoppers are going to love the store and all of its contents as much as we do. Whether you’re a bride peeking around the shop while you wait for your bridal gown appointment, a soon-to-be grandmother looking for a keepsake for your future grandchild, or simply someone seeking a great place to shop for a gift for a loved one, Broad Street Mercantile is the store for you. Carrie says that being a one-stop shop is the ultimate plan. “We hope to be a well-known gift destination, and we want our customers to know that they can always find the perfect gift they need with us. We want to be a local business that thrives in this close-knit community.” Carrie, Broad Street Mercantile is well on its way to being just that.
