This workshop focuses on the intersection of handicraft and storytelling, inviting students to stitch their own narrative onto a beautiful 1906 map of the contiguous United States custom printed on a piece of linen cotton canvas. The class covers core embroidery basics and essential stitches to create pathways, designate destinations, add personalized imagery and text, accentuate geographic features, create a map legend, and explore options for edges and borders. This coursework is well suited for adventurous beginners, but students with more embroidery experience are encouraged to join for a fun refresher and the opportunity to apply their skills to a large-format map.
