October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and Down Syndrome Alabama Birmingham will be hosting its annual STEP UP for Down Syndrome walk and celebration on Sunday, October 22, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. in Vestavia’s Wald Park. “It’s a Picnic in the Park” is this year’s theme, and there will be picnic food and picnic blankets to purchase, a silent auction basket bid and buy, a kids’ zone with inflatables, face painting, a DJ, and more! Each person at the event will have an opportunity to be part of a collaborative empowerment art project designed to unite our community as we advocate for individuals with Down Syndrome. This art piece will then be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Down Syndrome of Alabama’s programs. Free for those up to 2 years old, free for those with Down Syndrome, $5 for 3 to 12 years old, and $10 for 13 years old and up.
