Join the Nashville Sounds on Saturday, June 11, as they honor Norman “Turkey” Stearnes, the only Tennessean in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. As a player in the Negro League, Norman Stearnes helped pave the way for the integration of baseball. To honor his legacy, the Sounds are giving away a Stearnes Hit City Shirsey to the first 1,000 fans. Plus, Norman Stearnes’ daughters are scheduled to be in attendance to celebrate his legacy as the Sounds recognize initiatives with The Nine, a new Minor League Baseball program. The Nine is an initiative for all MiLB teams to spearhead a Black-community-focused outreach platform designed to honor and celebrate the historic impact numerous Black baseball pioneers made on the sport, provide new opportunities for youth baseball and softball participation, and further diversify the business of baseball. Throughout the evening, the Sounds also highlight Nashville Black-owned businesses, educate fans on the history of the Negro Leagues in Nashville, and more. The first pitch is thrown at 7:05 p.m., and tickets begin at $10.
