You never know what kind of weather March will bring the Carolinas. It’s almost like spring is teasing us from around the corner, but the weather has been warm, so we’re not-so-secretly hoping it’s here to stay. This month you’ll notice we couldn’t wait any longer to incorporate bright springy colors and pastels into our “What to Wear” series, and we’re pretty sure our readers are probably itching to break out the colors too. With that in mind, we’ve teamed up with local stylist Zebrina Stalling and three local boutiques — Denim House, Monkee’s of Charlotte and Luna Boutique — to bring you nine outfits that we think are perfect for three top local events happening in March.
Here’s to spring, bright colors and fantastic fashion!
- March 16, 2017
- Tickets start at $150
- Learn more and purchase tickets at museumofthenewsouth.org.
Enjoy an evening full of Southern charm as the Levine Museum of the New South celebrates 25 years. During the affair guests can enjoy the sounds of traditional Southern music, including Carolina beach music, jazz and more while sipping specialty cocktails and indulging in delicious dishes inspired by different recipes from around the South.
What to wear: A night at the museum calls for something special, like a fun, printed cocktail dress or sleek maxi! You can also go the all black route with a little black dress or a dark top and bottom combo with a pop of color from added accessories or colorful shoes. (Make sure the shoes are comfortable, because you’ll definitely want to tour the museum while you’re there.)
The Event: Mint Eight-O Aloha
- March 3, 2017
- Tickets start at $125.
- Learn more and purchase tickets at mintmuseum.org.
Celebrate the Mint Museum’s 80th anniversary in style with a “Hawaii Five-O” themed party. The night will consist of live music from the ’70s and ’80s, luau-style eats and, of course, cocktails. Festivities will take place at the Mint Museum’s Uptown location, and guests can hula dance the night away from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
What to wear: Like the ’80s and a traditional Hawaiian luau, this event is all about bright, festive colors and bold accessories — and just because it’s a throwback doesn’t mean you’ve got to run to Goodwill to purchase leggings, headbands and acid-wash jeans. Instead we suggest donning a colorful, flirty dress with attention-grabbing accessories that you’ll actually want to wear again.
The Event: March Money Madness
- March 9, 2017
- Tickets start at $30
- Learn more and purchase tickets at jlcharlotte.org
As one of the Junior League of Charlotte’s signature events, March Money Madness is a night full of NCAA basketball games, great food and an impressive silent auction. At the end of the night, guests even have the chance to win big money in a 50/50 raffle.
What to wear: March Money Madness is all about letting loose, watching your favorite college basketball team and giving back to charity. Since the event is centered around watching sports, we suggest wearing something comfortable and not too dressy. You can always wear your favorite team’s colors or go for a laid-back yet polished look with a nice blouse and your favorite pair of denim, which is always a safe bet! Oh, and it’s an event that your favorite guy will also enjoy if you want to add some arm candy to your outfit.
