It’s May — we have long weekends, summer travel and fun in the sun on our minds, which helped guide us in selecting our monthly FINDS. We’ve searched the city’s boutiques and stores for incredible items that range from travel guides and emergency beach kits to fun home decor and colorful jewelry. We’re completely obsessed with all 18 items and think you will be too.
Organizing your favorite books doesn’t have to be plain or boring — add some glitz to your bookcase or shelves with these beautiful rose quartz bookends from The Bag Lady. The soft pink color of the stones is remarkable and a great addition to your home. You can buy the pair for $88.
We may not have had many April showers, but there are certainly enough May flowers to fill up the house with freshly picked stems! This adorable set of six mason jar vases in a farmhouse-style wire basket is ideal for arranging bouquets — the jar tops even have convenient little openings to keep your flowers in place. You can purchase for $82 at Theory Design Studio.
Vibrant colors always catch our attention and this turquoise bubble vase from High Cotton Home Company was no exception! It’s so eye-catching that it can stand alone adding a pop of color to any room or you can add a few stems to make it both beautiful and useful — we suggest using white blooms for a stark color contrast. Find it at High Cotton Home Company for $49.
Mini emergency kit
You’ll want to carry one of these darling “Beach, Please” mini emergency kits in your beach bag or car this season to avoid getting stuck at the beach without necessities like sunscreen, aloe and hair ties. The small water-resistant package also contains items that can help you out of a jam including a flip-flop fixer for days when your flops can’t hang and safety pins to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions. Woo Skincare and Cosmetics carries them for $14 each.
Okay, okay — we’ll be honest, we immediately fell for the packaging of these Wild and Wolf Folklore lip balms from City Art Works. Seriously, they are probably the cutest lip balms we’ve ever seen and we know quite a few people who’d love to have one in their bag. The balms are all clear and come in delicious flavors including strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and elderflower. Grab one for yourself or as a gift for $8.
Sun care hair veil
Protect your hair from the summer elements with Aveda’s Sun Care Hair Veil protective spray. The water-resistant spray is full of UV filters that will provide 16 hours of protection to keep your locks in tip-top shape. Purchase at Dolce Lusso for $28.
We could all use a little pampering every now and then — and you don’t always have to leave the house to do it, especially when you have a jar of Eminence Organic Skin Care’s Almond and Mineral Treatment. Crushed almonds will gently help you wipe away rough patches and dead skin, leaving your skin smooth and glowing. Ballantyne Hotel and Spa carries it for $44.
Mother’s Day is coming up and we’ve found the perfect gift to spoil Mom this year, with these gorgeous handmade turquoise earrings from Magnolia Emporium. While we always love a great turquoise accessory, it’s the dark minerals that run through the beads that truly stand out on this pair. Purchase for Mom or yourself (we won’t tell) for $52.
It was love at first sight when we spied this dusty rose feather necklace with gold beading! The color contrast is utterly striking and the dainty feather details make it almost whimsical. Pair it with a plain dress or blouse to give your outfit a pop — we think it’ll look great with a strapless maxi dress. Stop by City Art Works to make it yours for $94.
These colorful teardrop earrings from Meredith A. Jackson Jewelry Boutique scream summer and should absolutely be worn on a relaxing tropical vacation (or days when you’re daydreaming about one)! Along with the cheerful colors, we also really love that they’re lightweight. Stop by Meredith A. Jackson and grab a pair for $92.
Represent your favorite Queen City neighborhood with an awesome accessory — a penny bracelet with your Charlotte zip code engraved on the front. They’re also great gift ideas for friends or loved ones who have recently moved and could use a little piece of home with them at all times. Ruby’s Gift carries several different zip codes for $13.
Step into summer in style with these champagne gladiator sandals from K-La Boutique for $36. (We’ve seen a similar Tory Burch pair that was almost $200!) The color makes them extremely versatile — you can pair them with anything from a maxi dress to a pair of cuffed jeans — and they’re extremely comfortable (yes, we had to try them on), so you can stand or walk all day without any problems.
We don’t know about you, but we can often get overwhelmed when we have a lot going on and just need a little time to unwind and decompress by doing something mindless. We’ve found that adult coloring books are a great way relieve some stress, and this Mindfulness book from The Bag Lady is designed to help you focus and destress. It’s full of insightful quotes and creative illustrations that come to life as you color. Pick one up for those stressful days for $14.95.
Summer travel bags
Keep all your bits and baubles organized while traveling with this cute trio of summer themed jute bags from Julie’s Boutique. Use the smaller bag for your jewelry or small items, the medium size for travel-size beauty products and we like the idea of using the larger bag as somewhere to stash bathing suits after swimming! Buy the trio for $19.99.
If you’re traveling this month for Memorial Day weekend or vacation, keep your iPad in good shape with a LifeProof case from Great Outdoor Provision Company. The cases are waterproof, dirt proof, shock proof and if you’re heading somewhere cold — they’re even snow proof! (We really could have used one of these plenty of times in the past.) The best part is that you can still use your screen through the case, so you won’t have to worry about constantly taking it on and off. Plus, the $129.99 price tag is cheaper than buying a new iPad.
We love how long a Corkcicle tumbler can keep our favorite beverages warm or cold, but we love that they’ve come out with a spill-proof lid even more! Our other tumblers don’t have closing lids which leads to too many spills and accidents in our opinion. We found the lids for $4.99 each at Omega Sports.
Cook out season is upon us and we couldn’t be happier about it — basically because it involves eating lots of delicious food and buying cute party decor and favors like these Southern State of Mind cocktail napkins. We have a feeling any true Southerner would appreciate them, especially those who may have moved away but are still in the South at heart. Park Road Books carries them for $5.99 per pack.
WildSam Field Guide
Get a jump start on planning a trip with a WildSam Field Guide — a pocket-sized book full of recommendations, stories and the history of some of our favorite cities. Consider it like an insider’s guide with plenty of insight on where to eat and stay and what to do. Cities currently in print include Austin, New Orleans, Charleston and Nashville. Onward Reserve has them for $22 each.
Whether you’re traveling this month or just soaking up the sun from your back porch we hope you’ll find a few of these FINDS extra helpful!
