Summer is in full swing and we are so excited for all that’s to come in July! With temperatures (and humidity) ramping up, summer concert series in full swing and outdoor festivities right around the corner, it’s only right that we present to you a brand new What to Wear. We’ve teamed up with The Pink Tulip, Manhattan South and Elle to bring you eight chic outfits for three of Birmingham’s most exciting July events— The Annual Fireworks Show at Vulcan Park & Museum, the Summer Films Series at the historic Alabama Theatre and the highly-anticipated Luke Bryan concert at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre.
This month’s stunning models are two boss ladies from Brookwood Baptist Health. Cristine Ferguson is the Chief Strategy Officer and Lemeshia Chambers is the Behavioral Health Market Director. We had a marvelous time getting to know these two women at Roots & Revelry, one of our favorite brunch and dinner spots in downtown Birmingham.
Time to style!
- July 4, 2019
- Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
- Admission is free to the public
- Vulcan Park & Museum
- For more information, see visitvulcan.com.
One of Birmingham’s best Fourth of July celebrations is the Annual Fireworks show at Vulcan Park and Museum. This event is perfect for the whole family. Pack up a blanket or two and find a comfy spot to sit downtown and watch this spectacular 20-minute firework show set to a soundtrack of patriotic tunes. The show begins at 9 p.m. and is free to the public.
What to Wear: Even though the sun has gone down by the time this event starts, casual is key. Alabama summer nights are notorious for being very warm, so wear something lightweight and comfortable. Since this is an outdoor event where you’ll be sitting on a blanket or in a low chair, wearing clothing that moves well is important! A jumpsuit is a great way to stay comfortable but look stylish. Red, white and blue are always welcomed colors on the Fourth of July, so add pops of colors in your clothing, jewelry and accessories!
The Event: The Summer Film Series
- Every Friday and Sunday in July
- Friday films begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday films begin at 2 p.m.
- Admission is $9
- Alabama Theatre
- For more information, see alabamatheatre.com.
The Alabama Theatre’s Summer Film Series runs through August 11. This series has quickly become a beloved Birmingham family night, date night or girl’s night out. Moviegoers are sure to enjoy classic favorites, including To Kill A Mockingbird, Jaws, The Wizard of Oz and more. Everyone loves to spend a summer night in the air-conditioning at the truly iconic Alabama Theatre.
What to Wear: A night at the theatre means you can get a little bit more spruced up. These three looks exude comfort and style with added layers of jewelry, heels and bright pops of color. Don’t shy away from large earrings and multiple necklaces! For this event, the more the merrier. Since you’ll be inside, layering a kimono over a swing tank top is a great way to ensure you’ll stay comfortable no matter how low the A/C goes. We also suggest pairing a neutral tunic with fun embroidered jeans to add dimension to your outfit. No matter which outfit speaks to your style, you’ll feel confident and beautiful in any of these options!
The Event: Luke Bryan Concert
- July 25 & 26, 2019
- Show begins at 7 p.m.
- The Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
- For more information, see theoakmountainamphitheatre.com.
Birmingham is the must-stop spot for country music superstars this summer. Luke Bryan, along with Cole Swindell and Jon Langston, brings the Sunset Repeat tour to sweet home Alabama at the end of July. Luke always brings the party, so we know this is going to be a summer highlight! Tickets are almost sold out for both dates, so be sure to grab them while you can and then get your outfit ready for a night out on the town.
What to Wear: It’s going to be a warm one, so it’s important to choose an ensemble that is both stylish and lightweight. At this outdoor venue with thousands of people, the temps are certainly going to rise throughout the night. A romper is a great way to look completely put together while staying cool and comfortable. We love the mint green romper with the fun pop of animal print for those who want to show a lot of personality for a date night or girls night out. If you’re heading to dinner before the show, add a blazer over your tank top for a versatile look. Once you get to the amphitheater, shed the jacket and you’re all set to enjoy the show!
Stay cool and chic this July, Bham!
