Welcome to June, Birmingham! As we step into a new season, now’s the time to happily embrace sunny days, outdoor soirées and, of course, a new What to Wear. To help us celebrate in style, we’ve teamed up with local boutiques fab’rik, located both in Homewood and at The Summit, and Monkees of Mountain Brook to bring you nine fashion-forward and warm-weather-friendly ensembles for three of Birmingham’s most anticipated June events: Flicks Among The Flowers, Art On The Rocks and LOCAL 2019.
This month’s beautiful models are Rebekah, Jenny and Rosemary, three members of Koch Aesthetic Dentistry‘s incredible team. It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with these women in the Bottega dining room, one of the Magic City’s dreamiest backdrops.
Now, let’s get to styling!
The Event: Flicks Among The Flowers
- June 5, 2019
- Show begins at sunset (8 p.m.)
- Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested
- Birmingham Botanical Gardens
- For more information, see bbgardens.org.
Flicks Among The Flowers is a favorite summer series for Birmingham locals, and this summer, Birmingham Botanical Gardens will host two baseball-themed movie nights on June 5 and July 17. Grab the family or make it a date night, bring some blankets and head to the Gardens for a sunset start of The Sandlot (around 8 p.m.) on June 5. Admission is free, and pets and alcohol are not allowed.
What to Wear: Keep it casual for this event! As you’ll be lounging outside, it’s important to be comfy without compromising style. We suggest opting for a light pair of white denim with a flattering top, or a non-restrictive skirt paired with a fun, colorful blouse or tee. Here, we’ve included options for those who prefer flats as well as those who’d like to dress up a bit with a pair of wedges. Either way, you’ll feel effortlessly chic in these styles.
The Event: Art On The Rocks
- June 14, 2019
- Event runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Tickets are $25
- Birmingham Museum of Art
- For more information, see artsbma.org.
Another highly anticipated summer series, Art On The Rocks, is back on June 14. As always, the first of this summer’s three installments will feature art-centered entertainment, including live music by rock/soul band Con Brio, artist demonstrations, interactive mural making and more. And because it’s such a fashionable soirée, the 2019 edition of Art On The Rocks is inspired by the Birmingham Museum of Art’s Ways of Seeing Fashion exhibit, sponsored by local style coach Megan LaRussa.
What to Wear: Since this event intersects art and fashion in the Magic City, we suggest getting yourself a bit dolled up! Go for a flowing dress or floral number paired with some on-trend block heels. Or, if pants are more your style, pair them with a statement-making top, like this bright pink blouse, below, that matches the night’s vibrant atmosphere.
The Event: LOCAL 2019
- June 15, 2019
- Event begins at 5 p.m.
- Admission is free
- Alys Stephens Center
- For more information, see alysstephens.org.
LOCAL is an annual celebration of all things Alabama, giving attendees the opportunity to get to know local makers and performers while exploring the best the state has to offer. Guests will enjoy an outdoor evening festival at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Center, complete with live music, food trucks and tons of fun.
What to Wear: Anything goes for this event! We suggest opting for something casual, comfortable and light because, although the event takes place in the early evening, Alabama in June is notoriously hot, hot, hot. Here, we’ve pulled together three very different, yet equally stylish looks— a kimono, shorts and funky accessories for the boho-chic gal; a timeless denim top and white shorts for the classic beauty and a navy sundress with easy slides for the comfort-seeker.
Have a fun and stylish June, Birmingham!
