Summer in the Magic City is filled with fabulous events, and July proves that point. We selected some fun happenings to check out this month, which include Flicks Among the Flowers at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the “New Year, New You” Reveal Party hosted by Children’s of Alabama and the Women’s Music Showcase at Workplay.
To get you ready to step out in style, we selected some stylish looks from two top Birmingham boutiques — Manhattan South and Wrapsody. And our models are tops, too! Local fashion bloggers, Carlyle Thornton, Mindy Rohr and Halee McKenzie helped us show off these great looks. So, without further ado, let’s see this month’s stylish looks!
The Event: Flicks Among the Flowers

- Gates open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m.
- Admission is free, but a $5 donation is encouraged.

Grab a friend and some blankets, and get ready for an evening of fun at this year’s Flicks Among the Flowers at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. On July 18, enjoy a screening of film classic Jaws. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is encouraged. This is the perfect way to take advantage of a beautiful Birmingham summer evening with your crew.
What to Wear: This event is all about keeping it casual, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise style. Both Wrapsody and Manhattan South helped us pull together three comfortable, yet chic and polished looks for this outdoor event. We’re suggesting a flattering pair of jeans and a fun embroidered top, a simple tee and shorts or a cute blouse with a splash of color.
The Event: “New Year, New You” Reveal Party
- July 26, 2018
- Event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
- For more information, visit metafitstudio.com.
This inspiring event celebrates the transformation of a life while raising awareness and funds for Children’s of Alabama Children’s Center for Weight Management. This is their sixth year hosting this event, and they will exceed $100,000 raised to help children and adolescents in both our community and beyond. This year’s event will celebrate Alanah Melton, a single mom who is an incredibly hard worker at the Mayor’s office and an inspiration to us all!
What to Wear: For this event, we suggest a simple, flattering and comfortable dress or set. Play with some patterns, or switch it up a bit and go for a sweet and simple monochrome top and bottom.
The Event: Women’s Music Showcase at Workplay
- July 28, 2018
- The event begins at 8 p.m.
- Tickets are $20.
- For more information, visit workplay.com.
Celebrate some of the Magic City’s best female musicians as they bring their talents to the Workplay stage. Artist Jessica Meuse, an Alabama local who was on NBC’s “The Voice,” will perform alongside Sharron Collins, Bai B, Kathryn Delacruz, All Folked Up, Raquel Lily and Peanut. Tickets are $20, and the show begins at 8 p.m.
What to Wear: For this event, we’re showing you how to look effortlessly sophisticated three different ways. Pair a simple blouse with jeans, or kick it up a notch with a skirt or dress for a dressier look.
Have a fun — and stylish — July!
