The holidays are in full swing, and unless you’re Beyoncé, you may need a few new pieces to add to your wardrobe for this year’s festivities. And we think even Bey would grab a few of these looks! We are kicking off our celebrations with George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker,” performed by the Alabama Ballet. Also on our December calendar is the Wacky Tacky Christmas Light Tour and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s New Year’s Eve: A Viennese Celebration. We are throwing in some kids’ outfit ideas too, because even the youngest among us wants to look festive when attending these long-cherished traditions. As always, we love shopping local, and this month we shopped looks at Monkee’s of Mountain Brook, Manhattan South, Theadora Abbeyluxe, Snap Girls and Swoop.

Thousands of lights! Gravity-defying displays! Mooning Santas! Don your tackiest Christmas sweaters for a fun-filled, family-friendly bus ride, benefiting Fresh Air Family, a nonprofit that provides creative, educational outdoor programs connecting a diverse cross-section of Birmingham families and children to nature. Join Fresh Air Family as they seek out the best, over-the-top light displays in town, including the Hanukkah house, Santa’s trailer park, Santas soaring through trees and over rooftops, and the Auburn-themed holiday house with its blow-up leg lamp a la A Christmas Story. Tacky snacks, such as Cheez Whiz on Ritz crackers, will be on hand for those craving more cheesiness. And for those needing something with more substance, jambalaya will also be served!
What to wear: Since you’ll be bundled up in a bus or in your own car, we’ve picked some comfy looks that still show off our favorite holiday accessory — fur!
