As we say goodbye to winter and welcome spring’s sunshine, it’s time to mark the social calendar for a few outdoor events. And with these events comes the need for comfortable, stylish and transitional activewear. Today, with help from the experts at Club Pilates, we’re showing you how to rock the ever-popular athleisure trend for some of Birmingham’s most exciting outdoor March events.
Today’s stunning models are Sarah Yandell and Annette Plaia, instructors at Club Pilates’ newest Downtown location. We had such fun styling movement-approved wear from their studio as well as local favorites, Mountain High Outfitters and Alabama Outdoors. And we are so thankful to the Pizitz Food Hall for letting us use their gallery space as today’s backdrop. Now, let’s get to styling!
Throughout March, Birmingham’s streets will be filled with runners. From the Village 2 Village 10K to the Red Shoe Run, there are plenty of races and fun runs worth attending this month. If a slower-paced workout is more your speed, opt for Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ family yoga class or free yoga in the gallery space at The Pizitz each Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. Did we mention the class is followed by a discounted wine tasting at The Louis Bar?
What to Wear: Although fashion is not the top priority when you’re running or at a local exercise class, we firmly believe that your fitness success skyrockets when you love what you’re wearing. Here are three ways to feel fashionable while getting active. These looks are as practical as they are stylish. High-quality fabrics, convenient pockets, light tanks for layering and comfortable sneakers are just a few reasons why we’re swooning over these styles.
Now that your fitness schedule is full, let’s move on to some of Birmingham’s upcoming casual outings where athleisure is more than welcome. Peruse the local produce and goods at Pepper Place’s Indoor Farmer’s Market, or don something comfortable for weekend shopping at the Birmingham favorite, Cottontails Village Arts, Crafts & Gifts Show. Or if you’re looking for a way to get a bit active while exploring the Magic City, attend one of Vulcan’s Spring Walking Tours! They’ll be touring the Kiwanis-Vulcan trail while discussing the rich history of Red Mountain.
What to Wear: Athleisure wear was literally made for these events, so feel free to get creative here! We’re showing you one way to successfully style the jogger trend, easy ways to incorporate color into your athleisure wardrobe and how to make a classic workout outfit appropriate for a casual outing with the addition of a layering piece like a light jacket or long-sleeved tee.
Birmingham’s outdoor events don’t stop there! We’re gearing up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Five Points throughout the second week of March. The 39th Annual St. Patrick’s Dinner and St. Patrick’s Day Parade are just two of the week’s special celebrations. Just don’t forget to add a green accessory or else risk getting pinched! And the Exceptional Foundation’s 15th Annual Chili Cook-Off is back! All of these events are the ideal place for our “upscale athleisure” looks.
What to Wear: Did you know that some of the top athleisure brands, like Patagonia and The North Face make more polished pieces in the same comfy, light fabrics of your favorite fitness wear? This Patagonia jumpsuit is beyond comfortable and looks so sophisticated that you’d never guess it’s considered athleisure. This pink top and The North Face culottes fall into the same category. They’re made with the kind of fabric that just makes you feel good — and look good too!
And thank you to Eric & Jamie Gay of Eric & Jamie Photography for the fabulous photos of our models!
