September begins tomorrow — can you believe it?! Fall is waiting in the wings with cooler temperatures, festive activities and all of autumn’s excitement, and we can barely wait! So, today we’re showcasing style suggestions for three of September’s top events — Signature Chefs, the Second Annual Hymns of Hope event and the first of Vulcan’s AfterTunes concert series. We’ve got an exciting month coming!
Today, our incredibly talented models are none other than the ladies of ABC 33/40’s “Talk of Alabama.” We’re sure you recognize “Talk of Alabama” host and anchor Nicole Allshouse. She absolutely shines in today’s looks from Monkee’s of Mountain Brook, as does “Talk of Alabama” producer McCall Scofield. It was an absolute treat to work with these ladies. We are so inspired by their unique talent, impressive work and the sweet friendship they share. Tune in to “Talk of Alabama” every weekday at 9 a.m to keep up with all things local! Till then, these women can be seen modeling with a breathtaking backdrop: The Elyton Hotel, which houses The Yard restaurant, a fabulous space where Southern progressive cuisine is served with a heaping side of Southern hospitality. All of their products are sourced daily from local farmers ensuring integrity, flavor and soul stand out in every dish. The food is rivaled only by the hotel’s elegant and inviting atmosphere. And you can’t miss Moon Shine, The Elyton’s fabulous rooftop bar that delivers tantalizing libations and bites, as well as unbeatable views of the Magic City skyline.
Now, without further ado, here is this month’s What to Wear!
The Event: Signature Chefs Auction

- The evening begins at 6 p.m.
- Tickets are $250.

Join the March of Dimes for the Signature Chefs Auction, an evening spent benefitting babies and families by raising funds for the campaign to end prematurity. This culinary showcase features Birmingham’s top chefs, ensuring that even the savviest of foodies will be more than satisfied by each tasting experience. Spirited cocktails and an exciting auction will complete this delicious event. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. at The Club Inc.
What to wear: For this elegant evening, we suggest opting for a fun and flirty cocktail dress. Both of these dresses from Monkee’s of Mountain Brook are sophisticated, flattering and gorgeous for any event that calls for cocktail attire. We love the lace and peplum detail on Nicole’s red dress, and the unique shoulder detail on McCall’s little black dress makes a sleek yet subtle statement.
- September 13, 2018
- Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.
- Tickets are $30.

Support Prodigal Pottery, a company that employs women fleeing homelessness and domestic abuse, this September 13 as they host their Second Annual Hymns of Hope event at the historic Lyric Theatre. Guests will enjoy music from Sandra McCracken and Jill Phillips while celebrating the hope and restoration Prodigal Pottery provides our community’s women. There is nothing better than that!
What to wear: For this event, a jumpsuit is a fabulous choice, but we know it can be difficult to decipher what style jumpsuit looks best on your body and how to successfully style it. So, Monkee’s of Mountain Brook provided us with two ultra-fashionable jumpsuits to guide us along on our jumpsuit-styling journey. McCall’s navy jumpsuit features cute button detailing, ruffled sleeves and a slightly cropped leg. It is oh-so-flattering and, best of all, comfortable! We love how the magenta beaded earrings pop against the navy. Nicole’s off-the-shoulder jumpsuit is timeless, classic and fun. It’s a fantastic twist on the typical little black dress. Pair this one with strappy black heels and some bold gold jewels for an exquisite look.
- September 23, 2018
- The day runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 3 p.m.
- Tickets start at $10.

By the end of September, we’ve finally made it to breezy and enjoyable fall weather, so grab the whole family and head on out to Vulcan Park and Museum for the first of this year’s Vulcan AfterTunes Concert Series. On September 23, Los Colognes and Duquette Johnston will grace the stage. Delicious bites, drinks and fun activities will complete the event. The day runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the concert starting at 3 p.m.
What to wear: This outdoor concert series calls for comfort, and because it is near the end of September, temperatures will have dropped a bit, allowing jeans, pants and sleeves to be the perfect go-to casual style. McCall models a chic, yet polished casual look complete with funky sleeves, flattering jeans and beautiful nude mules, while Nicole rocks an on-trend short-sleeved lace-up blouse with cute stripe detailing, black skinny jeans and some adorable black-and-gold espadrilles.
Have a fun — and stylish — September!
And thank you to The Elyton Hotel for acting as the most gorgeous backdrop in the city! The Yard serves breakfast Monday through Saturday, brunch on Sunday and dinner through the week, except Sunday. Stop by The Elyton’s rooftop bar, Moon Shine, for happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, with daily specials, including Craft Beer Tuesdays ($6 craft beer), Wine Glass Thursdays ($6 house wine) and Foodie Fridays, where all food items are $2 off and pizzas (one of their very best rooftop bites!) are $4 off.
And thank you to Eric & Jamie Gay of Eric & Jamie Photography for the fabulous photos at the gorgeous Elyton Hotel.
