There is so much going on around town this month that we just had to highlight a few of our favorite events. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Art Walk 2013 will take place Friday, September 6 from 5 p.m. -10 p.m. and Saturday, September 7 from noon – 6 p.m. in Birmingham’s historic loft district on Morris, 1st and 2nd Avenues North, between 22nd and 25th Streets. Art Walk is an arts festival that transforms Birmingham’s loft neighborhood into an arts district, featuring the work of more than 100 visual artists, live musicians, street performers, food and drink vendors, and children’s activities. People of all ages can enjoy being downtown at a safe, family-friendly, community event. Friday night has been compared to a huge gallery opening with a street festival atmosphere, while Saturday afternoon caters more to the family crowd with special children’s activities. On September 7, come on out to Crestline Village and see a live performance of BIG HEAD TODD and THE MONSTERS! This is a family-friendly day dedicated to highlighting the charm and approachability of Crestline Village while supporting a local non-profit, PreSchool Partners. Store specials will be held throughout the day at all local retailers and restaurants. Special events include Touch-A-Truck (2 p.m. – 5 p.m.), where children will have access to touch, feel, and become familiar with the city’s service and construction vehicles. Beginning at 6 p.m., local Mountain Brook Bands will be playing across Church Street. Mason Music presents several talented local bands beginning at 6 p.m., and at 8 p.m., headliners Big Head Todd and the Monsters will perform live on stage located in middle of Church Street.
Stone Hollow Farmstead will be hosting another farm to table dinner on September 19th at the farm, so round up the family, friends and kids and enjoy a one-of-a-kind and truly unique evening of fun at the Farm, with great music, food, drinks and company. Meet the animals from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., enjoy sunset cocktails from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner. Western’s Fall Wine and Food Festival at the Birmingham Zoo
On Friday, September 27th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Western Supermarket’s annual Wine and Food Festival will take place at the Birmingham Zoo, with over 500 wines to taste in every varietal, style and price point. Chefs from the Jeff State Culinary Institute will be serving dishes featuring the best local foods. Western’s professional wine staff will be on hand with wine distributors and growers to answer your questions and offer suggestions. There will also be carousel rides and raffle prizes, and the zoo staff will be parading animals around the crowd throughout the night. Great deals to be had on wines available to pre-purchase and pick up at Western later. You will also be able to check out the debut of the 2014 Porsche Panamera from Tom Williams. And the best part is all, proceeds will benefit the Emmet O’Neal Library!
Tickets are $50 in advance at all Western locations, online, and at the Emmet O’Neal Library and will be $60 at the door or $40 per person for groups of 10 or more.
Trucks by the Tracks
Head on over to Railroad Park on September 29 and enjoy live music, entertainment, food trucks, and beverages.Trucks include Slice Pizza & Brew, Shindigs, Spoonfed Grill, Cantina, Melt, Nola Ice, Jim n’ Nick’s, Hank’s Famous Hot Dogs & Italian Ice, Dreamcakes, Repicci’s Italian Ice, Avalanche, Birmingham Fashion Truck, Steel City Pops, Urban Wings, Off the Hook, and Biscuit Love. (Whew. We’re starving now! Aren’t you?) This event is presented by Railroad Park Foundation Junior Board and Railroad Park. Admission is free, with food and beverage available for purchase.
