Birmingham’s creatives never cease to amaze us, and as a new year begins, we’re feeling even more inspired by the Magic City’s booming business scene, specifically small shops on wheels. Today, we’re taking a look at three small businesses taking to the streets to spread flowers, fashion and Fido-friendly fun across the ‘ham. Take some time today to get to know the folks and inspiration behind the trucks. Here are three of our favorite creative shops on wheels!
Wild Honey Flower Truck could not possibly be more Instagrammable. This sweet floral business was born from one local couple’s love for a 1963 Ford Econoline pickup truck. Kelsey and Josh Sizemore found the truck for sale in Ohio and instantly knew it was the perfect roaming home for their brand new business. And thus, Wild Honey Flower Truck joined the Magic City’s selection of creative shops on wheels.
What exactly can you find at Wild Honey? A wide selection of beautiful fresh-cut flowers, of course! Flowers are sold by the stem, and guests have the opportunity to design and build their own bouquets. The staff also offers unique pre-made arrangements for those looking for a professional’s touch. “We love that the truck allows people to have the experience of picking out their favorite flowers and making their own bouquet,” says Kelsey.
Josh adds, “We love being able to take the truck into different neighborhoods and see how people respond!” Having just launched in November of 2018, the new flower truck has visited Cahaba Brewing, The Summit, The Pizitz and The Essential, and they can’t wait to explore other areas once the spring and summer weather arrives. Find Wild Honey Flower Truck by visiting their Instagram page, where they’ll post any pop-ups. SB TIP: The next pop-up is planned for Valentine’s Day! Wild Honey is also listed as an AirBnB experience for Birmingham. How fabulous would this truck be at your next event for an unexpected, fun and memorable guest experience!
Owned by local fashionista, Courtney Rochelle, The Southern Wanderer, also known as the “SoWagon,” is Birmingham’s ultimate mobile fashion boutique. With the slogan, “My Soul wears gypsy boots, yet the Southern soil secures my roots,” their selection is best described as eclectic, bohemian, gypsy-inspired threads rooted in Southern style. The SoWagon has been dressing Birmingham residents for years now and participates in nearly every local food truck or outdoor event, including Avondale Brewing’s annual food truck rallies and Railroad Park’s Trucks by the Tracks.
The truck was born out of a desire for boho-chic fashion at affordable prices that marries classic Southern style and travel-inspired garb. The SoWagon curates a fun-loving collection of flowing dresses, wanderlust-themed tees, unique blouses, ’70s-inspired bottoms and funky accessories like wide-brimmed hats, stone rings and fringed totes. Essentially, The Southern Wanderer is a dream boutique on wheels for today’s modern hippie gals. Best of all, The Southern Wanderer donates a portion of their sales to multiple charities throughout each year!
Magic City residents can find The Southern Wanderer by checking their Instagram or Facebook pages for upcoming events and pop-ups, or book the mobile boutique for your next fashion-filled event by visiting their website.
Fetch: A Treat Truck for Dogs is dedicated to bringing delicious, health-conscious treats and toys to Birmingham’s beloved furry friends. The owner, Allison Whitfield-Smith, had the idea to bring a food truck for dogs to the Magic City after catching a news show segment about New York City’s Fido-friendly trucks. In the hopes of taking advantage of Birmingham’s growing food truck craze and her desire to infuse fun into her own life after years in the corporate world, Fetch was born. And who better to spearhead the canine coach’s journey than a women whose lifelong answer to the question “What makes you happy?” has always been “Dogs!”?
The Fetch truck is the first of its kind in Birmingham. Residents and their four-legged friends can find local treats from Blind Dog Biscuit Co. and Lizard Daddy Dog Biscuits, as well as Fetch’s own bones, cookies, whole wheat cakes & cupcakes, peanut butter parsley bulk, beef flax bulk and even doggo-friendly ice cream! Maple bacon ice cream, peanut butter ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and chicken popsicles are made with natural, whole wheat, organic and, of course, Fido-approved ingredients to ensure your pup more than enjoys his treat. Fetch also offers lick-worthy libations including Bowser Beer (an upgraded water with delicious and healthy additives), Porky Pug Porter, Cock-a-Doodle brew, Beefy Brown Ale and more.
Birminghamians can find Fetch: A Treat Truck for Dogs by checking out their website or Instagram. The truck is also available for parties, events, fundraisers or really any kind of social activity where dogs are welcome and celebrated! Best of all, a portion of all of Fetch’s proceeds go to local animal shelters and rescue groups instrumental in helping Alabama’s homeless pet problem.
