If you’re like me, that extra week of summer before school had you scrambling for more family-friendly entertainment ideas and looking to grab just a bit more R and R before we must wistfully say sayonara to the lazy days of summer.

Unable to find last minute availability at our preferred beach spot, I decided that a staycation at Ross Bridge was in order. If you haven’t been to this AAA ranked 4 diamond Marriott property in Hoover, you are in for a treat. Only minutes outside of the city (no chance of hearing “are we there yet?”), the resort is surrounded by lush greenery, woodlands, fairways and lakes and offers a laid-back, easygoing, yet polished environment. And the manicured landscaping is as impeccable as the staff’s friendliness.

Ross Bridge

Nothing says vacay like a hotel bed!

Nice job integrating the pool facility into the surroundings.

The slide guarantees hours of entertainment for the kids.

I think I’ll take a cue from these bathing beauties and make my next staycay at Ross Bridge a girl’s trip.

The grillmeister and the full service bar made sure there were no poolside meltdowns in the deodorant defying heat of the moment.

The gift shop had some really cute scarves…

… as well as cover ups and apres day-at-the-pool wear, along with the usual smattering of jewelry, travel accessories and whatnots.

There are several homey areas to relax in plus a cocktail lounge where you can watch tv or visit with your beverage of choice in hand.

In addition to Moroccan Oil, the salon carries many high end lines including one of my all time faves – Aveda.

Cute floral fedora for only $18.

The full service spa offers loads of options for pampering and relaxation.

If a workout is a must for you, the fitness center is open twenty-four hours a day.

We ate dinner at the kid friendly Clubhouse, but if you’re looking to step it up, Brock’s offers a Mediterranean-based fine dining experience.

While there, I happened to spy a couple of local celebs – the adorably fit-tastic girls who brought us Pure Barre, Danielle and Lindsay, soaking in some summer and reminding me every step of the way back to their poolside lounge chairs that lift, tone, and burn really does work. (Didn’t get a photo, as I thought it best to leave the paparazzi blitz to TMZ.)

Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa is the perfect local spot for a family jaunt, romantic rendezvous or a girl’s getaway, offering a top notch facility with a RTJ golf course, full service spa, casual and fine dining, workout facility and a happenin’ pool zone. If you haven’t experienced this one-of-a-kind destination that’s practically right in our own backyard, I say it’s high time you head over to Ross Bridge!
