Today, interior designer Liz Hand Woods joins us as our guest to share some favorite spring décor finds!

Liz:

As March winds subside and frigid temperatures are but a fading memory, I find myself absolutely giddy about the promise of warmer, brighter days on the horizon. In fact, I yearn to run through the house and throw open the windows and drink in all the freshness of spring. Never mind the persistent pollen or April showers, bring on the gentle breezes dancing their way through branches heavy with newly sprouted leaves and the riotous colors and scents springing from the blooms bursting in the garden. I want to capture every detail and savor every moment so as not to let it slip away.

At the same time, spring always sends me into a tailspin of cleaning. I am compelled to empty drawers and clear out closets. Out with the old and in with the new. A recent fury of spring fever found me tearing through my house seeking new ways to energize tired, old spaces. The designer in me wants to roll up the rugs, throw on the slipcovers, and bring out the paint. But, my more practical side says, “Hold on, maybe some new pillows, fragrant flowers, or a fabulous accessory or two will do the trick.” So when Catherine issued the challenge to highlight some of spring’s top finds, I jumped at the chance. An afternoon spent exploring a few of Birmingham’s best boutiques yielded some great options to bring the freshness of the season home.

Woods_Head Shot_2013-03-20The desire to design a space has always been part of Liz Woods’ being. While her friends dressed and styled their Barbie dolls and played out scenarios of their imaginary lives, Liz was decorating the dolls’ house and camper.

After pursuing another field following college, she found her way back to interior design through an opportunity with a Birmingham firm. There, she flourished and once again pursued her passion, later striking out on her own.

Liz’s primary focus is on residential spaces, and her goal is to create environments that nourish and improve one’s quality of life. She listens intently to her clients, expressing their vision in a way that is deeply personal to them, yet reflects her own design aesthetic.
She has worked on projects from Florida to Wyoming and has been published in Cottage Living, Southern Accents, Birmingham Home and Garden, Verandaand Portico magazines.
In addition to designing spaces, Liz travels extensively and loves to be in the kitchen pursuing another of her passions: gourmet cooking. She is married and lives in Birmingham with her six children and two dogs.
