Savannah Baugher of Wheelhouse Salon is giving us the insider secrets to the trendy ropey ponytail look with a loosely knotted and braided style, plus a gorgeous braided chignon that’s so dreamy, it will make you sigh with hearts in your eyes.

“The biggest mistake people make with updos is they try to be too perfect with it,” says Savannah. “The messy style is in, so you don’t have to nit-pick and be a perfectionist.” She encourages home stylists to be creative when creating an updo. There aren’t hard and fast rules to pulling up your hair, so try something new! The only area where perfectionism is in order is bobby pins. “It’s so important to hide the bobby pins,” she says. Lastly, don’t be afraid to tease your hair for even the slightest bouffant effect. “It’s going to be way too big at first but you have to give yourself room to smooth it out,” she says.

Now that we’ve got the basic tips to a successful hairdo, let’s dive into the step-by-step particulars of these two gorgeous hair styles!
