ORE Drink and Dine

September 10, 2012 by Catherine Romero

The hubby and I decided it was time for a night out so we headed over to Ore Drink and Dine on Dunston Avenue in Crestline Park in search of some good food in a fun atmosphere. Ore delivered just that.

The bar is a great place for catching up over drinks.

American Idol’s season 5 winner, Birmingham’s Taylor Hicks (the grey-haired George Clooney-meets-Jay Leno dude with the harmonica and his “Soul Patrol”), is part owner of this neighborhood bar and grill. Ore dishes out eclectic, southern cuisine on par with Hicks’ bluesy, soul-infused R & B winning rock style, ensuring that there’s something on the menu for everyone.

The restaurant name, as you can see in this shot of the back wall, comes from Birmingham’s steel roots.

A perfect Caprese salad: juicy, yet firm, red ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella and large whole basil leaves drizzled with just the right amount of balsamic reduction tastes of pure summer lovin’.

Red snapper, the evening’s fish special, served over quinoa and a trio of heirloom tomatoes was melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

My man opted for the ahi tuna appetizer which he said tasted super fresh.

Although the restaurant has a laid back casual flavor, it’s also great for those who like to step it up a bit. Cozy understated elegance + a dash of southern charm + a pinch or two of soul = one solid-as-a-rock star of a restaurant.

Now this gal’s got serious swagger – So Mad Men in the Ham. Love it!

When we visited Ore, they had a Sweet Sixteen gig going on in the back room. Fun!

With a diverse, upbeat crowd, a well-rounded menu that includes tasty riffs on chicken, steak and seafood, and an invitingly relaxed chic style, there’s nothing idle about this Idol’s restaurant venture. Rev up your next night out and head on over to Ore – it’s a great experience!
