New this year is a 100-foot ice slide that is sure to add a brand new element of fun and winter cheer to the already magical ice skating experience. Load up the family and head down to Railroad Park for a night of skating, hot cocoa and delicious bites to get you into the holiday spirit.
See a festive film at the Alabama Theatre.
From Elf to Christmas Vacation to the classic favorite, It’s a Wonderful Life, there’s a movie to get any Scrooge smiling at the annual Holiday Film Series at the historic Alabama Theatre. This holiday tradition is ideal for those in search of a calm yet festive night with the entire family. Get to the theater early to participate in the Christmas carol sing-along and to grab a festive cocktail and snack. Purchase your tickets in advance, as each show sells out quickly every year!
Visit ZooLight Safari at the Birmingham Zoo.
Looking for a night out on the town the whole family will enjoy? Look no further than our very own Birmingham Zoo! From December 6-30, attendees can enjoy millions of beautiful Christmas lights, the Candy Cane train, live entertainment, the Jingle Bell Carousel, the Yuletide Slide and delicious food and drinks. ZooLight Safari, presented by Wells Fargo, is a great option for those with little ones — Santa will be appearing each night for photos! Bundle up and have a festive evening strolling through the beautiful Birmingham Zoo.

Nothing says “holiday tradition” better than loading up the family and driving around town picking out the best Christmas lights. Let someone else do the driving for you as you hop aboard a family-friendly tour bus bound for tacky and wacky Christmas light displays throughout Birmingham — and don’t forget to don your tackiest holiday attire. Cut down your own tree at Old Baker Farm.
There’s nothing merrier than cutting down your own fir! Head down Highway 280 to Old Baker Farm for a special day of family Christmas fun. Their “choose and cut” Christmas tree farm is open now through December 24. Climb aboard their hayride and enjoy riding through the trees before hopping off to select your Christmas pine. After picking out the perfect tree, warm up with some complimentary hot apple cider and a candy cane or two!
Stop by Miracle at Queen’s Park.
Move over, Miracle on 34th Street, it’s all about Miracle on 24th Street in the Magic City. See Queen’s Park transform into a winter wonderland just in time for the holidays! Enjoy festive adult beverages, singalongs, special events (including the world’s largest ugly sweater party) and photos with Santa for the children, expanded seating areas and all the Christmas spirit your heart can handle. Queen’s Park will be open seven days a week, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so that everyone has a chance to experience the holiday magic. This is one of the most popular destinations for some yuletide cheer, so grab your friends, arrive early and, as always, drink responsibly.
Drive through Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland at the Birmingham Race Track.
Ooh, ahh! Take in the wonderful lights and festive tunes at the Birmingham Race Track. From now until January 5, 2020, enjoy two miles of beautiful light displays as they flicker and flash to holiday tunes, which are played over their special radio station right in your car. Visitors and locals alike look forward to Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland each year, as it always gets them into the holiday spirit.

Rock out this December 11 to the incredibly talented American rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra when they grace the BJCC stage once again. Trans-Siberian Orchestra always puts on an interactive and thrilling performance that features pyrotechnics, a light show, videos and, of course, your favorite holiday tunes like “Christmas/Sarajevo,” “Christmas Canon,” and “Wizards in Winter.” This is a fun and unique way to celebrate the holidays!
