A tan makes a big difference!

With Spring Break pretty much here, I am wincing over the fact that I’m not quite feeling it, as far as looking good on vacay. Who wants to be pasty white at the beach or on the slopes this time of year? Not me! So I’m fakin’ it with a healthy UV-free tanning treatment that won’t harm my skin and gives me that beauty boost I so desperately need right about now. I’m not afraid to admit it, I’m a fan of the spray tan.

Now I know many of you have probably had a bad experience, as far as fake tans go. I would not send you off to a skeevy, back alley-type tanning salon where you’re expected to strip and get sprayed down in a dilapidated room the size of a hall closet with peeling paint and the stench of suntan lotion in the air!

No way! Meet my friend, Andrea McCay at Dermatology and Skin Care Center of Birmingham. Andrea is nurse, esthetician and professional spray tan administrator! There’s something so much more dignified about getting your glow on at a doctor’s office. If I’m to get down to my skivvies, then I much prefer to do so in the presence of a trained medical professional. The office building is super nice with large plate glass windows and a spacious waiting area with proper reading material. Once called back, the tanning room is equipped with a large pop up tent in which you will stand to be sprayed. Andrea uses Norvel tanning solution, which can be customized to achieve a natural look, whether you want to go light or super dark.

Andrea is super cute and knows how to wield that spray gun!

Here’s what you need to know:

Pre-tanning: shower, shave and exfoliate, as no tanning product does well on dry, flaky skin.

The Norvel solution will not stain your clothes, but I suggest wearing black because it can rub off and you’ll look like you’re wearing dirty clothes. You cannot get wet for at least 6 hours, but 8 is recommended so NO showering, sweating or even washing your hands! I went out to lunch immediately after my application and was not streaky at all and had no accumulation of product in neck lines, etc., like I’ve experienced with other spray tans.

It’s best not to wear makeup so the product doesn’t have to compete to soak in. The tanning formula will camouflage any skin flaws, so don’t worry if you need to be out and about!

Stick on feet ensure you don't end up with tanning solution on the bottom of your feet.

Stick on foot protectors ensure you don’t end up with tanning solution on the bottom of your feet.

You will get these cute sticky feet to step on so no product ends up on the soles of your feet! Andrea is so good at applying the formula that no barrier cream is needed for other areas either!

Norvel has a pleasant smell and is super quick drying – there is no stickiness, it washes off clothes/sheets should you get some on either, and it NEVER looks orange!

The whole process takes less than fifteen minutes and only costs $25!

Now I just need a cocktail and some sand between my toes!
