Rediscovering Birmingham Botanical Gardens

September 16, 2012 by Catherine Romero

If you’re anything like me, then the only time you visit Birmingham Botanical Gardens is on the last possible day in late fall to get a family photo taken in order get your holiday cards done in time.

Well, I recently spent an unplanned day there and discovered how truly enjoyable this place is when the pressure of getting the perfect photo was absent from the situation.

A nice spot to take in the scenery

A quiet place to catch up on some reading or do a crossword puzzle

There are several water features throughout the gardens.

The gardens are meticulously maintained.

Whether you feel the need to have a moment or just want to enjoy the scenery, the Botanical Gardens are a great place for a leisurely stroll. And you can always make use of the free wifi while you take in some fresh air on the many benches planted throughout the garden grounds.

And for you ladies who lunch, the Gardens Cafe by Kathy G serves up lots of fresh fare. I can personally vouch for the tomato pie – a savory, mouth watering treat. Definitely a ladies’ spot – take your mother or your daughter, or host a shower at this charming place.

Perfect area to sit and enjoy your lunch or chat with a friend

Yum!

The view from the outdoor seating area at the cafe.

Leaf and Petal, the onsite garden and gift shop, has loads of fun and unique home decor finds and of course, plenty of plants.

More plants for sale.

I loved discovering all the great home decor finds in the shop, as these next photos can attest.

antique fan

old seltzer bottles are $55 each

old lantern

I’d like to have this to corral the sports equipment that always seems to be left at my doorstep. $85

This industrial bin would look great and be very useful in lots of areas around the house. $1200

Glass bottles look good with any home decor style.

There are so many opportunities to enjoy this Birmingham gem!  And lots of upcoming events that you don’t want to miss at the Gardens, like Antiques in the Gardens and the always popular Cocktails in the Gardens.  Hope to see you there!
