3 Birmingham Staycation Itineraries
Experience Modern Birmingham
WHERE TO STAY: To experience the modern revitalization of Mountain Brook, book an escape to the dreamy Grand Bohemian Hotel. Bright, contemporary design elements play into the unique atmosphere at this boutique hotel. Explore the beautiful art gallery, take cooking or wine blending classes, relax at the Poseidon Spa, or head to the eccentric rooftop restaurant and bar, Habitat Feed & Social, for delicious bites, refreshing cocktails and beautiful views.
WHAT TO EAT: One of the perks you can enjoy while staying at the Grand Bohemian is that almost everything you need is within walking distance. From eateries to bars to entertainment options, you don’t need a car or an Uber to shuttle you from place to place. Right across the street from your hotel, you’ll find Lane Parke, a retail and restaurant development. Enjoy some Mexican fare at Sol Y Luna, catch the game at CharBar No. 7, grab a slice of pizza at Post Office Pies, or get your caffeine fix at Revelator Coffee. Looking for a cocktail? Take a short walk to Carrigan’s Pub for our personal favorite cocktail, Southern Culture. Cheers!
WHAT TO DO: Directly across from the Grand Bohemian are the stunning Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Immerse yourself in the beautiful 67.5 acres and 30-plus themed gardens that make up this gorgeous space. Stop by Leaf & Petal to take home a plant of your own and refuel at the tasty Gardens Café. As a bonus, the gardens are free to the public!
Experience Classic Birmingham
WHERE TO STAY: The Elyton Hotel boasts elegant Southern charm and modern touches that make this 118-year-old historic building truly one-of-a-kind. Nestled in the heart of downtown Birmingham on “The Heaviest Corner in the South,” the Elyton is a destination in and of itself. From the delicious restaurant, The Yard, to the awe-inspiring views seen from the rooftop bar, Moon Shine, the Elyton is the perfect spot for those looking to experience all that Birmingham offers.
WHAT TO EAT: There are plenty of incredible eateries within walking distance of the hotel. If you’re in the mood for authentic Cuban fare, Cayo Coco is your spot. We love the beautiful atmosphere, delicious eats, and of course, their tasty rum. After dinner, make your way to one of the Magic City’s best-kept secrets, Pilcrow Cocktail Cellar, located directly behind Cayo Coco (SB TIP: Order the Ampersand Collins. You won’t regret it!). In the morning, make plans to brunch at The Essential or Trattoria Zaza. Looking for more restaurants within walking distance? Head over to The Pizitz Food Hall and explore their bountiful dining and watering hole options, including one of our personal favorites, The Louis Bar.
WHAT TO DO: When the weather is just right, there is no better place to be in downtown Birmingham than Railroad Park. This gorgeous 19-acre space across from Regions Field is a must-visit. Pack up a picnic or your bike and enjoy an afternoon at Birmingham’s most loved green space.
If you’re looking to explore more of Birmingham, book a pedal tour. See the sights of the city and some of Birmingham’s best breweries from a different view. Birmingham Pedal Tours are the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening getting to know your city in a fun way.
Do you have a history buff accompanying you on your staycation? The Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Vulcan Park & Museum and the Negro Southern League Museum are just a few of the amazing museums that are sure to impress locals and tourists alike.
