Off the Wall
Enjoy wonderful hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and soft drinks while you use strategy, negotiation, and a whole lot of luck to determine the photograph or bottle of “liquid art” you will take Off the Wall and home with you. You can read about the artists and see some of their work here. More importantly, proceeds from this fundraiser go to benefit children and families in crisis! Salsa de Mayo
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo without waiting for a table! Join the Junior Board of Birmingham Botanical Gardens for Salsa de Mayo, a fun, educational twist on the traditions of May fifth. Enjoy refreshing imported beer and tasty margaritas as you learn how to make your own gourmet salsa with a cooking lesson from professional chef Lori Sours, co-founder of the Salsa Senorita line. First Thursdays After Hours at the Museum
Its your version of Night at the Museum! The Birmingham Museum of Art offers an after-hours experience on the first Thursday of each month. Wander the galleries, sip cocktails in the garden, catch a movie, or sit down with friends for tapas at Oscar’s. CahabaQue BBQ Cook Off
The 2nd Annual CahabaQue BBQ Cook Off will take place on Saturday, May 3rd at Cahaba Brewing Co., with proceeds benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Sample great tasting barbeque, enjoy live entertainment, Cahaba Brewing’s finest local craft beer and vote for your favorite cook team to win the coveted People’s Choice Award. Cinco de Mayo at The Pantry
Celebrate this Mexican holiday with the Pantry and their Hispanic friends from the farm! Momma Elyse is making tamales, Pedro is cooking up tacos and Mary is making a flan! They will have the chino out roasting a pig for this special celebration of Mexican heritage and pride! Alabama Theater presents Jason Isbell with special guests Langhorne Slim & The Law. After six years with Southern rock band Drive By Truckers, this singer-songwriter from northern Alabama, went solo in 2007. Mamma Mia will be at the BJCC Concert Hall in Birmingham, May 9-10, 2014 as a special to the Broadway in Birmingham 2013-2014 season. Girls on the Run 5K
Girls on the Run is a transformational after-school program for 3rd-5th grade girls that empowers girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. This 5K is not only a celebration of the Girls on the Run participants, but helps fund the 10-week program. Girls on the Run teams will be coming from Mountain Brook, Birmingham, Homewood, Vestavia, Hoover, Montevallo, and Bessemer to run their first 5K. This race is open to the community, and all runners, walkers, ages and levels are welcome! Please join in for a fast, flat race course followed by fun festivities! DJ Steve Sills will provide the race tunes needed to get you pumped up and will be leading an optional group warm up at 7:30am. After the race, there will be snacks, more music, and fun kids activities including bracelet making, picture frame decorating, line dancing, Zumba and more. Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies

American Red Cross Babysitting Training at Homewood Library
Get your tweens/teens ready for babysitting this summer with this classroom course, which lasts about 6 hours and provides hands-on training in first aid. In class, you learn how to: respond to emergencies with first aid, make good decisions under pressure, communicate effectively with parents, recognize safety and hygiene issues, manage young children, feed, diaper and care for infants.Reservations required. Do Dah Day
The South’s craziest parade kicks off at 11:01 a.m. on the streets of Highland Avenue in Birmingham’s Southside.
