If you’re like me, you really want to narrow down (and stick to!) a daily beauty routine that is actually doable in the real world and provides noticeable results without being overwhelming, right? With so many products promising to perform miracles on your skin woes and way too many overly airbrushed faces in ads for the next big beauty breakthrough, it’s almost enough to make you want to give up.
But don’t! Beauty expert Africa Miranda is here to help.
Recognized for her presence on Bravo’s new docu-series “The New Atlanta,” and her beauty-related spokesmodel and brand ambassador gigs, Africa has loved beauty since she was a little girl. It’s certainly no surprise to learn she has channeled her entrepreneurial spirit into her own line, beauty by Africa Miranda.
Having traveled extensively, Africa knows a thing or two about beauty on the go. As she noticed the distinct beauty of women from different parts of the globe, she made it her business to note their secrets and learn how various native ingredients bring out the best in their stunning residents.
Her first product, the Facial Elixir, affectionately referred to as “Brazil in a bottle,” contains maracuja oil with cupuacu butter and don’t forget collagen-producing vitamin C. Maracuja oil boasts antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and is a powerful ally in the fight against skin inflammation and even stress. Another bonus: it’s great for acne-prone skin. I personally love the Facial Elixir because of its lush texture and instantly visible results on not only facial skin but also on dry knees and elbows. It is a miracle worker (really!!) on cuticles as well.
Luminous Body Mist is Africa’s next product, scheduled to launch in early October 2017. This luxurious dry oil was inspired by a trip to the South of France last year. You spray it on damp skin right out of the shower, and massage it in for soft, supple, ultra-hydrated skin.
Because we all know so much of true beauty comes from within, I asked Africa how diet and exercise figure into her daily beauty routine. “Diet is SO important. I am pescatarian and try my best to limit processed/fried foods as much as possible,” Africa shares. “I add flaxseed to my smoothies, and eat a lot of avocado for an overall healthy glow.” She is a fan of the hair/skin/nail mulit-vitamin from Mielle Organics.
Africa tries to exercise 4-5 days a week when she isn’t traveling, and a minimum of three days if she’s away from home. She cites weight training as a go-to for toning and definition and relies on squats and spinning to round out her fitness routine. “If you have the right playlist you can go on forever,” she says. “If I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, a great workout helps me shake it off. I also think I do some of my best brainstorming at the gym!”
Here Africa shares some of the most beloved items in her daily beauty routine.
Africa Miranda’s Go-To Beauty Products
For the Skin
I use this on my face/neck and it works wonders to fight backne. It has practically stopped my hormonal breakouts!
This gives me the ‘vacation glow’ year round! It’s great for counteracting dryness from retinoid use. It can also be used as a gentle makeup remover — especially for matte lipsticks/stains and to smooth unruly eyebrows.
This is everyone’s holy grail product for a reason … it works! It dries any breakout overnight! I also keep it in my travel bag as it is great to soothe small bug bites as well.
For the Hair
This is my go-to product for styling my curls. It works well for a wash-n-go, twist out or curly faux hawk.
My very fave red lipstick! An amazing shade that stays ALL DAY!
Each wipe is individually packaged and perfect for travel. It pairs well with the beauty by Africa Miranda Facial Elixir to gently remove stubborn eye makeup, foundation and matte lip stains.
Water & Sleep
No product in the world will replace these two! Whatever amount of water you’re currently drinking, drink more. Add in an extra 30 minutes, or hour if you can, of sleep at night. Your body needs this time to recover and rejuvenate.
Beauty is certainly a place where having a routine isn’t boring. When you find products and an eating and exercise routine that work well on a regular basis, it actually gives you more time to explore other fascinating parts of life. Remember: Beauty is as beauty does, and developing and committing to a beauty routine is a goal well worth all your best efforts. You’ll be beautifully pleased with the results!
