Summer may be coming to a close but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop along with it. We’re excited about these upcoming Atlanta events in August but we’re even more excited to dress up for them! First is the BB&T Atlanta Open to get you up and active with the family; next is a chance to pull out that beloved sparkly dress for the Can Can Ball; and finally, enjoy the heat with some mouth-watering, Southern-style barbecue and music at the Decatur BBQ, Blues and Bluegrass Festival. Atlanta shopping in August may get a bit sticky (load up on that anti-frizz serum) but it’s also a heck of a lot of fun!
The Event: BB&T Atlanta Tennis Open
- July 30 – August 7, 2016, at Atlantic Station
- Special events all week
- Tickets available in daily, weekend and week-long options (VIP available)
If all those festivals based around eating and drinking have you feeling like you need to be rolled into your Uber, then the BB&T Atlanta Tennis Open is the event for you! Packed with family friendly events throughout the week, everyone will get moving at attractions like the practice courts, as well as fireworks, concerts and even major fun during the Kids Weekend. And of course, there are great tournament matches to watch!
What to wear: An outdoor event based around tennis calls for an athletic store featuring both sports-oriented and stylish apparel (we know you’ve read our story, “The Real Housewives of Tennis,” for the inside scoop on dress code, gear, etc.). We visited Big Peach Running Co. in Midtown where they focus on style and utility while shying away from the inevitable yoga pant fall back. Because they carry the top brands with just as many options, we were able to pull looks that not only keep you looking great but also allow you to chase the family (or tennis balls) all over the courts … without breaking a sweat.
The Event: The Can Can Ball
- Friday, August 19, 2016, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
- Held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta
- Black tie optional
Looking for an excuse to pull out that glitzy dress you bought that one time (and justified) for the perfect event that has yet to come? Look no further than this year’s Can Can Ball, benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Fun includes live music, dancing, a silent auction and awesome food. Besides, what’s more fun that getting all gussied up for the night — especially if it’s for charity?!
What to wear: The word “ball” implies the need to show up looking (and feeling) like a princess in search of her own Prince Charming. Thankfully Bravura, located in Cumming at The Collection at Forsyth, is here to help make that fairytale a reality with its stylish yet elegant dresses and accessories. Bravura has all the sparkle, so we couldn’t help but include as much shine as possible, from short and sweet to straight Gatsby style!
The Event: Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival
- Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Located at Harmony Park in Oakhurst
- Early general admission is $12; day-of admission is $20; kids 12 and under free with paying adult.
It’s time to get down and dirty to celebrate the nearing of the end of this very (very) hot summer. What better way than the finger-lickin’ BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival in Decatur? Get your wet naps ready — the event will feature barbecue by Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, Bone Lick BBQ, Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q and Sweet Auburn Barbecue (you can stop drooling now), with all proceeds benefiting the community of Decatur.
What to wear: For this event, we decided to go with sensible shoes that don’t punch holes in the ground and dark-colored clothing that will camouflage all that spilled barbecue sauce. Locally owned G.Gilbert in West Midtown made this possible — all while staying chic, casual and cool in the neverending Atlanta heat. G.Gilbert offers quality, stylish pieces from designers that you won’t see at other Atlanta shops and the store’s customer service is amazing. Honestly, you will leave feeling better about yourself than when you entered.
