The Georgia heat turns us into puddles on the sidewalk come noon. So when the sun starts slowly dipping into the sky, we crave a relaxing evening with friends. Summertime invites us to linger over a meal, and swapping plates and small bites and sharing a bottle of wine is the perfect way to toast a June sunset. One of our favorite places to join with friends for an evening meal is Stem Wine Bar in Marietta. The interior is cool and comfortable with lots of room for large parties and smaller tables for a party of two.
During the summer months, Stem takes advantage of all of the delicious summer flavors–fresh, Georgia shrimp, arugula, radishes, spring onions–and pairs them with refreshing and smooth summer wines. Sommelier Jason Raymond showed us how the fresh flavors are easily paired with summer wine.
Stem’s wine list is extensive, with a wide range of both prices and varietals. The staff has ample knowledge and is there to help you choose food and wine pairings. They often schedule wine classes for beginners and experts alike, as they truly enjoy educating people about wine. Stem even has a large collection of unique, hard to find wines, with a few that are exclusive just to Stem. Most of all, an evening at Stem Wine Bar is fun, relaxing and enjoyable.
And, if you want to create your own summer wine sipping evening on the porch, Jason suggests asking your favorite local wine merchant for options like these:
- Chardonnays that are big, buttery, and oaky
- Barbera reds, which are lighter in style and like a pinot noir
- A Gavi, which is a light and refreshing, no oak, Italian summer white wine
- A Spanish Godello, which can be compared to an inexpensive Vinho Verde from Portugal
Cheers to summer and sipping wine!
