Don’t you feel like you are always grabbing lunch at the same places? Whether it’s meeting friends or my husband for a quick bite, I always feel like I choose an old standby. And while there is nothing wrong with my old standbys, it’s nice to change it up every now and then. Here are a two places that I have been loving lately.
Joy Cafe: 316 Pharr Rd, 30305
I have been hearing about Joy Cafe for months and now, I finally know what all of the buzz is about. Located in the original Cafe at Pharr location, Joy Cafe takes great pride in using fresh ingredients and making everything from scratch. The lunch menu features all of the usual suspects (chicken salad sandwiches, Greek salads) and some inventive items as well–a ratatouille sandwich and garden of Tuscany salad especially caught my eye. For my visit, I picked a favorite, Croque Monsieur.
Joy Cafe is also known for their weekend brunch. Because the seating area is small, there is often a wait for a table if you go at peak hours (the same goes for lunch, as well), but your server makes your wait worth it when they put down a plate of homemade cinnamon buns and chocolate chip muffins.
I didn’t get a picture of my brunch order (a classic breakfast sandwich on a homemade english muffin), but I promise it was delicious. Next time, I will definitely order one of their famous buttermilk waffles that they are famous for!
Gallery Cafe: 3655 Roswell Rd, 30342.
Gallery Cafe is the kind of place that always hits the spot. Whether it is one of their fresh salads, sandwiches or homemade soups, it is easy for anyone to find something on the menu. They have been in business for as long as I can remember, but the new shops in the area and the remodeling of the shopping center has literally put a fresh coat of paint on their location.
Gallery Cafe is well known for their daily homemade soups. One of my favorite combinations is a half soup, half sandwich. And, I think they serve one of the best turkey burgers in town!
All this food talk is making me hungry. Lunch anyone?
