My Top 5 Must-Haves for Late Winter 2018

February 4, 2018 by Liza Graves

We all have a few things that every time we wear them, someone asks about them. Or, nearly every time. Here are my top five purchases over the past six months based purely on comments received from friends and strangers alike. Women need to stick together and pass this info along, right?

The four most asked about items currently in my closet and one skincare item I am loving oh-so-much.

Billie Mini Bootcut with side slit

Made by NYDJ, I’ve had 20-somethings to 70-somethings stop and ask me about these jeans. They are polished to be more like a denim trouser with a small ankle split on the side that is just the right amount of being on trend yet remaining a classic. Pair with a t-shirt or a blazer, heels or slip-ons. These jeans won’t let you down. For tall gals like me, they happily come in a 36-inch inseam. But, they are also available in regular inseams and plus sizes.

Versatile Billie Mini Bootcut jeans

Find them in tall here for $124. They are also available in regular (33-inch inseam) here and in plus sizes, for $134, here.

Donald Pliner Camy black block heels

With a 2.25-inch heel, these shoes are comfortable, modern and the perfect height for all-day wear. They’ve gone from Christmas Eve service to a girls’ night out to countless work days. They work with those Billie Mini Bootcut jeans above as well as dresses. I wear an 8.5, and they run true to size. I will say that my daughter was not impressed when I initially picked these up, as they aren’t super flattering just sitting there. But, once on, she saw what I had seen from the beginning. These are a shoe to judge when on your feet, not off! And, I have found them to be extremely comfortable, which is why I buy so many Donald Pliner shoes!

GRIT hat

This is an exclusive item from our SB Shop, made in collaboration with The Nash Collection, so it does have a little piece of my heart. But, the word GRIT has a real connection with so many people. When I wear it, people constantly stop me to ask me about it. Whether you are an entrepreneur, or trying to lose weight, or going back to school for a degree, or a young parent who feels you are losing your mind as you just want a little more adult conversation, the sentiment rings true. For me, it’s about getting up each day and going a little bit more, and that the consistency of the effort matters most. The word GRIT reminds me of that on days when I’m facing big roadblocks and feeling a bit deflated. Each day is a new day filled with possibilities for accomplishments — and mistakes — and GRIT allows us to embrace it all and keep going.

GRIT for the workout. GRIT for the grind. GRIT to get through the day and to see a concept through to a real thing. GRIT. It’s to be celebrated.

Find GRIT hats here for $35.

Army-green utility jacket by Three Dots

This jacket hides all sorts of areas that you might not feel so confident about on any given day. It gives you a waist, is longer in the back, has a hood and is a universally flattering color. Wear with skinny black jeans (these are $69) and those Donald Pliner shoes above for a dressier vibe. This is a great jacket for transitioning into spring, or for climates like mine, where a winter week can bring everything from single digits to highs in the 60s.

This loose-fitting jacket hangs a bit longer in the back than the front.

While I paid $250 for this jacket, it’s now on sale for $187.50 here.

Therapy Systems Amazingly Gentle Scrub

So, obviously no one is stopping me to ask me about my scrub, but it’s the thing I am loving most near my bathroom sink right now, so I want to spread the love. This 8-oz. bottle has enough product that I use it in the shower for my body and sometimes I wash my face with it at night as well. This scrub is really scrub-y, but it’s just as the name implies: gentle. It’s formulated with soothing aloe vera gel, calming peppermint and grapefruit oil, and all-natural jojoba beads to loosen dead skin and exfoliate to reveal glowing skin. I’ve never enjoyed a scrub so much ever! And, when you use it in the shower, use it on the tops and bottoms of your feet … it feels SO GOOD, and it’s amazing how much dead skin your feet can have all over them (scrub around your toenails, your arches … your feet will love you!). If you are looking for a great gift for a friend, this is a good one!

The scrub to end all scrubs!

Find Therapy Systems Amazingly Gentle Scrub here for $38. If you live in Nashville, Chattanooga or Atlanta, you can also find it at The Cosmetic Market as well.
