As the snow quite literally falls around me, all I can think about is the sun. Lord, give me sandals! Give me shorts! Give me a dang tan. I want to lounge on a patio, I long for a cold beer on a warm afternoon … sigh. The true cruelty is that while your toes are still swathed in your fleecy UGG boots (which I still maintain should only be worn at home, #sorrynotsorry), you have to be thinking about the season ahead, especially concerning your closet. If you wait until the weather is actually warm enough to shop for said shorts and sandals, all the good things (and good sizes) are already gone, long since plucked up by the gals sharp enough to think about it right now. Ugh, I know. Who can bear to even ponder such things while it’s still so frigid out? Well, us actually. All month long, our SB scouts have been sniffing out the first blossoms of spring in Atlanta’s best shops. So think warm thoughts, because winter is thisclose to over.
WARM WEATHER FASHION
Ann Mashburn has fully transitioned out of its winter sale and stocked its shelves with strappy shoes, breezy blouses and upbeat prints. The shop’s zip-back sandal comes in nude and black suede at a smart heel height perfect for daytime wear. $325
How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style & Bad Habits
In need of a little inspiration? How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style & Bad Habits by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas, is full of chic declarations on French style you can apply to your own closet. Available at Ann Mashburn for $25
A solid Panama hat will see you through all the sweaty hair days ahead, and it will look just as appropriate at the beach as it would running around town. Available at W. Port for $105
Warm weather’s lightweight tops and dresses can look unfinished from time to time, which is where a lightweight scarf comes in to pull things together. This one, from W.Port, is the perfect solution. Available for $250
Turquoise tassel earrings
And while we’re on the topic of polish with minimal effort, turquoise tassel earrings are a great way to brighten up your face on those hot “hair up” days. Finishing with a vintage Zuni cuff lends even the simplest outfit a little intention. Available at W.Port for $350 and $750, respectively.
When not in use, a summer scarf, as the girls at G.Gilbert remind us, also always looks pretty tied to a handbag, especially this Italian-made Massimo Palomba in such a sunny shade. How pretty would this duo look with a white dress? Summer scarf, $145, and Massimo Palomba bag, $673, at G. Gilbert
SUNNY HOME UPDATES
Personalized cutting boards
At Huff Harrington, we spied these pretty, personalized entertaining essentials. After all, “thinking spring” doesn’t only mean fashion; it also means wedding season is on the horizon. Hey, no better reason to give the gift of monograms. Available at Huff Harrington Home, starting at $24
The Brick + Mortar pop-up shop at White Provisions is chock full of interesting items from shop owner Dave Kowalski’s seemingly infinite scouting missions. We saw this stack of vintage posters and thought how cool they’d look in a man cave or den, framed alongside pennants that beam with city pride. Posters and Atlanta pennants, $25 each
Glass wrap knots
If you’re more into looking forward than pulling from the past, these SkLO studio glass wrap knots we found at the Southern Design Source showroom at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center would look great perched in a cluster on the bookshelf or sitting atop your favorite coffee-table books. $225
Storage baskets, chairs and tables
Can you say patio season? The funky brights of Kolo Collection have me inspired to entertain al fresco. PVC storage baskets ($40 to $100) work double duty indoors and out with Fernmob bistro chairs ($108) and tables ($255 to $375). A ’60s loveseat by Spruce ($897) dresses up festive with pillows swathed in Mariaflora Erice fabric ($112 per yard). Rounded out with Dedon’s Fedro floor rocker ($740) and a punchy blue side table ($470), Kolo can retrofit your entire outdoor area. And we do mean retro.
MISCELLANEOUS FUN FINDS
Summer bodies are made in the winter. Ugh, I don’t like that saying either, but alas, it is kinda true. And half of the workout battle is simply getting dressed and dragging your tail to the gym. Cute clothes definitely help, though, and at Pure Barre Westside, they’ve got things thoughtfully merchandised so you can literally cop a look right off the mannequin, like this Beyond Yoga strap twist back bra, $62, and Alo Pulse tank, $42. Easy.
