Everyone knows that Atlanta traffic is terrible, especially during the holiday commute. So instead of stewing in your car, focus on the twinkling lights and gorgeously decorated homes throughout the area. Christmas lights in Atlanta are pretty special, no matter what you believe, and they will no doubt bring a smile to your face. We snapped pics of some of our favorite homes — from the kid-friendly inflatables to delicate, dignified lights — and hope you keep your traffic irritation in check by checking out these wonderful homes.

Atlanta’s Beautiful Christmas Lights

Oak Grove

It would make sense that Decatur has some of the best Christmas lights in Atlanta, since the residents go all out for other holidays, like Halloween. This Oak Grove house has put the neighborhood on the map of over-the-top, rubberneck-inducing lighting displays.

Westside

Midtown has some amazing manors, and many of the Christmas lights have an understated beauty, featuring a single color or focusing on an architectural detail.

Though these lights in a Westside neighborhood are simple, the understated beauty is quite compelling.

Buckhead

Atlanta’s Christmas lights don’t get bigger or better than those on the homes in Buckhead. These homes (if you can call them that) are impressive on their own — add yards and yards of Christmas lights, and these dwellings become stunning works of art.

It’s kind of a given that the homes in Buckhead are going to have major Christmas light displays. We happen to like this one and how warm and inviting it looks.

It might not be that easy to see, but this home went with a toy soldier theme, and we thought the look was very original and cute.

Brookhaven

You can’t talk about Christmas lights in Atlanta without including “the inflatable house” of Brookhaven. We estimate there are more than 150 silly, sweet, puffed up features keeping everyone around Nancy Creek Park staring. Note: We caught sight of an inflatable dreidel, which made us feel good about cross-holiday promotions.

This house is a showstopper (for reals, there was a line running down the street for people seeking photo ops), but you’ve got to have some pity for their next door neighbors.

Let’s play Where’s Waldo? Can you spot the dreidel hiding among the Christmas-themed rubber ducky, penguins, snowmen and other inflatable characters?

Our favorite Christmas lights in Atlanta? Garden Lights, Holiday Nights from Atlanta Botanical Garden

There’s no way we can write a Christmas light article and NOT include the gorgeous displays created by the hardworking team at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Enjoy!
