The notion of the traditional meat and three diner often brings to mind watery vegetables and tasteless meatloaf, but the family-friendly restaurant Bantam + Biddy is just the opposite. The brainchild of Chef Shaun Doty (creator of Shaun’s and Yeah! Burger) and Lance Gummere (formally at the Shed at Glenwood), Bantam + Biddy is a modern diner that takes on a fresh approach of Southern staples.

Bantam + Biddy’s house speciality is most definitely rotisserie chicken. They feature Carolina free-range and pastured chicken. And let me tell you, the chicken, featured in numerous ways throughout the menu, is some of the best chicken I have ever had. Incredibly tender and flavorful, it makes you realize that this is exactly how chicken should taste.

The chicken at Bantam + Biddy is one of a kind! You can order a 1/4 or a 1/2 or have it as a sandwich or on top of your salad.

Bantam + Biddy also prides itself on their assortment of seasonal snacks and sides, all of which have a Southern touch to them. We started out with the Pastured Deviled Eggs with Bourbon-Smoked Paprika, the perfect start to our lunch. Our helpful server also gave a rave review of the Hot Boiled Peanuts and the Fried Eggplant with Miso Sorghum Dressing. And y’all, next time we plan on burning extra calories during our morning workout so we can indulge in the Duck Fat Fries with Local Cheese Curds and Chicken Gravy. We hear that they are a must-order.

Another must-order, especially as the summer heat makes its way to Atlanta, is one of their homemade sodas. Perfectly refreshing without being too tart or too sweet, the fruit flavored sodas are served in a tall glass with a generous amount of perfectly crunchable ice. Another beverage favorite amongst their customers is their coffee. Specially blended just for Bantam + Biddy, it is not your average diner coffee. The Crescent Avenue location also has an espresso bar with a creative list of get- you-going beverages.

After hearing reviews from friends, I tried the Southern Cobb Salad, featuring fresh mixed greens, rotisserie chicken, diced local bacon and a local farm egg. Served on the side was homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing. Every bite was exactly what you want from a Cobb salad.

We also tried the Falafel Wrap, a great healthy option, with sprouts, hummus, tomato, and broccoli with a yogurt sauce wrapped in a flour tortilla. And, believe it or not, the standout was the sautéed spinach and garlic. The spinach, which can easily be cooked so wrong, was the perfect texture and was light and flavorful.

And, any restaurant that makes sure breakfast is on the menu all day long is certainly a winner to us. The doors open weekdays at 7:30 a.m and 8 a.m. on the weekends with a full breakfast menu filled with delicious options like a Build-Your-Own Biscuit and French Toast with Fresh Berries. And, they also make sure the late-risers can get their breakfast fix with the addition of The Southern on the lunch and dinner menu.
