As the weather turns a bit cooler and the leaves change colors, it’s time to track down our favorite FINDS for October. Check out some of the best items from Atlanta boutiques to welcome autumn with stylish grace and lots of fun! And as a nod to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’ve included a few items that either support the cause, celebrate survivors or are just a cute shade of pink to remind women of the importance of self-exams and early detection.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Up your cardio and do something good, all at the same time! ASICS introduced the FuzeX PR running sneaker with a focus on cushioning, $110, in a cool pink and white pattern. But the best part about this shoe (besides its gel technology to absorb shock) is that ASICS teamed up with Christina Applegate’s Right Action for Women, which helps provide screening assistance to women at increased risk for breast cancer. The company will donate $10 for each pair of shoes purchased to this non-profit — with a guaranteed minimum donation of $100,000.
These slippers celebrate everything girly and fun — pink, animal print, jewels, ribbon and fur — all in one comfy package. We found these super-feminine, open-toed slippers, $24, inside Northside Hospital at A Woman’s Place, a gift shop focused on health care items and presents for women only. The shop offers post-breast surgery products, wigs and accessories, as well as maternity and lactation items.
Add a pop of blush pink to your wardrobe with this amazing scarf that has an even more amazing story. The Abigail Akwaaba scarf, $150, comes from Atlanta-based Bene, a company that seeks to bridge the worlds of fashion and humanitarianism. Bene helps provide an education to girls in Ghana by sponsoring tuition, books and supplies — and each scarf pattern is named after the girl the company supports. Learn more about their mission, their ties to Atlanta and how they’re inspiring others to do good in their local and global communities.
Good luck charms, like the horseshoe, are reminders to believe in the magic of life. We’re absolutely in LOVE with this beaded horseshoe necklace, $92, from Jilli Boutique (formerly known as Tryst Boutique), which would make an absolutely fabulous gift for a friend or yourself as a reminder to believe in everyday miracles.
No matter who you root for, the weekends are game days and you need to be both comfy and cute when it comes to cheering on your alma mater or your hometown team. We love these soft yet stylish “game day” sweatshirts, $34, from Honey & Hazel Boutique come in red, black, grey and navy (pictured here).
Faux fur vest
As the temperatures begin to fall, make sure you’re looking your best AND staying warm. This striped, faux fur vest, $395, from Calypso St. Barth is a cool neutral that will elevate whatever jeans, pants or dress you pair with it. Plus, its slightly longer length adds an unexpected, modern edge.
It’s all about layering when it comes to building the cutest fall look and there’s nothing like a tongue-in-cheek tank top to start off that look. We love this white, graphic tank top, $24.99, from Lorelai’s in Alpharetta because it celebrates our Southern roots.
Who isn’t obsessed with all things jackets and outerwear when fall hits?! This shorter version (called a blouson), in a bright and cheery color scheme, picks up on the hues of October. The Ava jacket, $450, from Lilith, is super sweet (check out the polka dot lining!) with a modern hemline. Note: the feather pin comes separate.
We can’t have an October FINDS article without having something spooky and ready to go for your upcoming Halloween party! We love this super cool, goth toothpick holder, $10, from steve mckenzie’s — it doesn’t scream Halloween but it does get your guests in the mood to scream. Plus, it’s just beyond cute!
Lighting enhances your room but it also can be a piece of art. Take this gorgeous white, lacquered lamp, $264, from Redefined Home Boutique — it’s modern, neutral, gorgeous and would look great in any home. I especially love the unexpected pop at the base, which helps to break up the white.
Just because the temperatures turn a little cooler doesn’t mean you should stop drinking water. These colorful, vacuum-insulated, stainless steel water bottles, $27.95, are available at Half Moon Outfitters. The Hydro Flask will keep your cold drinks cold, your hot drinks hot and, more importantly, keep you hydrated all day long.
We could have put these adorable cookie cutters in the kids section but we realize that everyone, regardless of age, likes eating dog-shaped cookies. INK Paper & Gifts has the best gifts and awesome fall decor pieces and their classic Cute Canines cookie cutters, $15.50, will always withstand time, age and, of course, diets.
They might not be the most stylish but these placemats are definitely the most educational! Help kids work on specific learning skills while waiting for dinner to hit the table with these wipeable placemats, $3.99 each, from Brilliant Sky Toys and Books.
Develop little Sally’s and Bobby’s appreciation for the arts by gifting them with these shockingly realistic finger puppets of the world’s most famous artists (Salvador Dali is pictured here.). Visit the High Museum of Art Shop to buy one of these finger puppets, $7.50 each (discount available for museum members), featuring Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Girl With a Pearl Earring, Frank Lloyd Wright and, of course, Salvador Dali. You also can get these plush artists in huggable doll size, as well.
