After I leave the salon, post haircut or color treatment, I pretend I’m starring in my own Pantene commercial — wind machines blow my perfect, bountiful tresses as the sun reflects the blinding shine bouncing off each curl. And before one of my kids chucks a spoonful of hummus at me or manages to plop toothpaste in one of my glorious locks later that night, I am Heidi or Giselle or Gwyneth, with a mane that brings mere mortals to their knees.
So how do you get that hairstyle high when you aren’t in need of a cut or color? Our addiction is a lady’s best friend: the blow dry bar! Once only called upon for the needs of bridesmaids, prom-goers and ultra-glam socialites, these hair oases have now become vital prep stations for date nights, business presentations, in-law outings and occasional-but-necessary pampering days. I had the best time examining Atlanta’s blow dry bars’ signature looks (including the all-important style names) and how they all differed. We took a hair tour through Atlanta and bring you a few of our favorite blow dry bars sure to blow you away!

A hair paradise awaits in the heart of Buckhead! Located at the Shops Around Lenox, Blo has a prime spot to transform your tresses from blah to bangin’. Atlanta’s Blo opened late last year, one of 70 locations across the country, and it has already gained legions of loyal fans. A signature “blo out” costs $40, and you can have a choice between the seven signature styles, including High Society (modern updo), Holly Would (flirty curls) and Executive Sweet (seriously straight). Blo offers a modern blow dry bar with a feminine twist, as pops of pink dot the space. The signature blo outs include a soothing wash, blow dry and obvious style — each look requires different instruments and styling tools, so just be open with your Bloer (aka stylist). Additional services include clip-in hair extensions, head massages and more.

Just as Rachel Zoe might say, I die for DreamDry. Seriously — the style mogul helped create this super chic blow dry bar. Atlanta’s DreamDry is one of only a few locations, all of which are in New York and Chicago. This glam salon is super modern, every station has an iPad for customers to use and bottles of luxe haircare line Oribe are on hand to be lathered, massaged and sprayed into your coif. The regular blowout, which includes shampoo, scalp massage and signature style, costs $45; however, if you know you’ll be a regular, buy a membership for $120 per month to get the other perks. Other services include makeup, deep conditioning masques, deep scalp massage, extensions and more.
Here’s why I personally loved DreamDry: Many other blow dry bars charge an additional fee for updos or braids. However, there’s a whole category of braids and buns on DreamDry’s regular style menu. For example, Rae offers a side-swept, glamorous braid and the braided Audrey features an upside down French braid that leads into a sweet topknot. I’m obsessed with braid crowns and haven’t mastered any YouTube video thus far so I selected Bianca. And if you prefer things down and loose, there’s no shortage of other styles (straight and sleek, sexy volume, soft and romantic, retro waves and much more). And if you have something really custom in mind, there’s the Dream(DIY) category — for an additional cost, the DreamDry stylists will recreate a look from any photo you bring in.

Keep things local and head to DeSo Hair Bar for a personalized experience from experts who know how to bring out your hair’s best! In fact, DeSo is so passionate about healthy, gorgeous hair, they created their own hair care product line free from harsh chemicals. The Wash, Blow & Go costs $40 and includes your choice from their seven signature styles. Want drama? Go for Hollywood Glam (retro pincurls) or Hello Gorgeous (sleek bun). Like to be playful? Get Pony Boy (a sexy ponytail or fishtail braid) or Ride the Wave (beach waves). I have a ton of coarse hair so I went with something that could keep a curl — my own cross between Ride the Wave and Simply Selfish (bouncy, loose curls). Extra menu items include extensions and updos.
I felt very comfortable at DeSo with one-on-one attention. While I was there, I learned how passionate the management team is about creating an atmosphere where EVERY woman, regardless of hair type and condition, can feel pampered and confident after the DeSo treatment.

What’s the cherry atop Cherry Blow Dry Bar’s awesome offerings? They’re open super early to help get your look together before a big work presentation or up your confidence level when asking for a big promotion. It’s all about the membership when it comes to Cherry’s services — while guests pay $45.99 for a blowout, members pay $10 less. Cherry Blow Dry Bar offers four membership options that include a different amount of blowouts per month at varying monthly fees.
So what do all those membership options get you? A whole lot of super cute looks! Cherry has one of the most extensive lookbooks, from Big & Bouncy to Relaxed Waves to Beachy Keen. Since I’ve gone with the wavy looks at many of these blow dry bars, I definitely want to try Straight Out the next time I visit Cherry. I may also try some of their specialty services, like the Express Smoothing Treatment or the Reparative Protein Treatment.

There’s a reason that many of the movies and TV shows shooting in Atlanta get local hair guru Charles Gregory to work on their stars. And now you can get his signature style by making an appointment at his Midtown salon. The Charles Gregory Blow Dry Bar has a whole team of expert artists to transform your boring locks into a beautiful ‘do. For $40, customers select from five styles (Plain Jane, Basic Betty, Bashful Beauty, Picky Pixie and Vampy Vixen) and are treated to an hour of shampooing, styling and pure pampering. Keep in mind that updos, hair extensions, braids and more complicated styles require an additional cost.
Hair just isn’t enough for you? Charles Gregory offers makeup services (including eyelash extensions), waxing, facials and other skincare treatments.

We can’t have an article about blow dry bars and not include the mack daddy of them all: Drybar. This blowout trendsetter has an additional location in Alpharetta and has earned its reputation by offering glamorous, consistent styles, regardless of what city you’re in. All Atlanta blowouts cost $45 and include a slew of choices from the menu. Similar to the clever branding of Atlanta-based Spanx, Drybar pokes fun at its pick-your-poison mentality … but you won’t have beer goggles looking at these cute styles: The Cosmo features lots of loose curls; The Mai Tai is messy, beachy hair; and the Southern Comfort of course has lots of big hair and lots of volume.
Stop by Drybar every once in a while for a big event, or order the Barfly Membership and have access to blowouts on a regular basis. Just remember, it’s easy to get addicted to Drybar and you don’t even have to be 21 to get in!
We want to know which look you selected! Make sure to post your fabulous hair all over social media and tag @StyleBlueprintAtlanta on Instagram so we can admire your new ‘do.
